Dalian Laohutan Ocean Park is located on the southern coast of Dalian, nestled between mountains and sea with a winding shoreline. This marine-themed park primarily showcases ocean animals and performances while offering coastal scenery. Its five venues each have highlights: the polar zone houses beluga whales, polar bears and penguins in simulated polar environments, with beluga and dolphin shows as main attractions; the happy theater features humorous sea lion and walrus performances that delight both adults and children; the marine mammal pavilion, shaped like a pirate ship, hosts playful seals and sea lions; while the coral aquarium displays colorful reef creatures and dreamlike jellyfish to recreate an underwater world. If you want to visit the bird forest to see birds, you can take the cross-sea aerial cableway to overlook the scenery of tiger beach bay and the southern coast from above, then arrive at this large semi-natural artificial birdcage. Blue peacocks, red-crowned cranes, egrets, parrots, and other birds freely engage in activities among the trees. Strolling through it feels like walking into a valley bird park, where you can occasionally come face-to-face with the birds up close. The park also features sea sightseeing boats, a 4D theater, a root carving art museum, and amusement facilities like the family-friendly Jurassic happy island. The tiger sculpture group is also a popular photo spot. When tired, you can relax on the beach, feel the sea breeze and watch seagulls circling overhead. A small reminder: animal shows at each venue have limited time slots. Check the daily schedule upon entry to plan your visit order and avoid missing desired performances.China · Dalian

Shanhaiguan, also known as the first pass under heaven, is located in the northeast of Qinhuangdao. The Shanhaiguan pass was built in the Ming dynasty, leaning against the Yanshan mountains to the north and facing the Bohai sea to the south. It is a complete defensive system and an important military fortress in ancient times. The terms "inside the pass" and "outside the pass" commonly used in ancient times were demarcated by Shanhaiguan. Shanhaiguan is one of the important passes in the eastern section of the Ming Great Wall, echoing Jiayuguan in the western section as the head and tail of the wall. It is honored as the "first pass under heaven". The perimeter of Shanhaiguan pass is approx. 4 km, connected to the Great Wall. The Ming dynasty city walls within the ancient town are well-preserved, with most main streets and alleys retaining their original appearance, making the town more elegant and quaint. The most striking feature is Zhen Dong tower on the east gate of the pass, also known as the "first pass under heaven tower". The tower stands tall on the Great Wall, commanding a panoramic view. Climbing the tower offers a bird's-eye view of Shanhaiguan and the scenery outside the pass. Surrounding Zhenyuan tower stand structures like Jingbian tower, Linlü tower, Muying tower, Weiyuan hall, the urn-shaped defense system, Dongluo city, and the Great Wall museum. The layout of these ruins offers insights into ancient Chinese city defense architecture. Afterwards, stroll into the old town to sample local snacks while experiencing Shanhaiguan's distinctive customs. Shanhaiguan is not only a military fortress with a long history, but also a picturesque tourist and summer resort with pleasant climate. The attraction features over 90 developed historical sites, with the Great Wall as the main thread, including several scenic areas such as "Laolongtou", "Meng Jiangnu temple", "Jiaoshan", "Longevity mountain", "Yansai lake", and "Wang family compound". These attractions are conveniently located close to each other with good transportation, allowing for an easy sequential visit.China · Qinhuangdao

As the National Day holiday drew to a close, I stepped through the vermilion gates of the Shenyang Imperial Palace. The red walls and yellow tiles shone brightly in the autumn sunlight. Unlike the grandeur of the Forbidden City in Beijing, this place exuded a rich Northeast Manchu flavor. Upon entering the eastern section, the Dazheng Hall immediately caught my eye. This octagonal, double-eaved pavilion-style building resembled a giant tent. Two majestic dragon-carved pillars stood solemnly at the main entrance. The eight corners symbolized the Eight Banners, signifying "unity of the eight directions," forming a spacious tent-like courtyard with the ten princely pavilions arranged in a V-shape on either side. Standing there, one could almost see the grand scene of Nurhaci discussing politics with the leaders of the Eight Banners. Continuing along the central axis, the Chongzheng Hall, golden and gleaming, stood in the center, commonly known as the "Golden Throne Hall." Its roof was covered with yellow glazed tiles with green trim, and the beams were shaped like three-dimensional dragons leaping forward. The interior was entirely open, without a ceiling. It was here in 1636 that Huang Taiji declared the change of the dynasty's name to the Qing Dynasty. Inside the hall, the gilded cloud and dragon screen and the openwork golden dragon throne are arranged according to the layout during Emperor Qianlong's eastern tour, giving visitors a sense of traveling through time. Ascending the Phoenix Tower, once the tallest building in Shengjing (Mukden), one sees a plaque inscribed with Emperor Qianlong's calligraphy, "Purple Qi Comes from the East," hanging high above. From the railing, the entire Forbidden City unfolds before one's eyes. During the National Day holiday, the Forbidden City was bustling with activity. The museum not only opened half an hour earlier and closed half an hour later but also offered nighttime tours. Folk music performances on the platform in front of the Dazheng Hall and tourists in ancient costumes strolling among the red walls gave this 400-year-old building a unique vitality during the holiday.

The park is much smaller than the Forbidden City in Beijing, and a leisurely stroll can take about two hours to see everything without the need for long walks. There are benches for resting throughout the park. However, elderly people in electric wheelchairs need to exchange them for manual wheelchairs at the service center. The Chongzheng Hall and the Five Palaces on the platform (the imperial concubines' residences) require climbing stairs and crossing high thresholds; the Phoenix Tower is a high-platform building, completely inaccessible to wheelchairs. Although there are accessible ramps in the Dazheng Hall Square and Wensu Pavilion area on the east side, most of the exhibition halls inside are inaccessible to wheelchairs, and most visitors can only view the exterior.

As the earliest trading port in Northeast China, the 1.3-kilometer old street preserves 31 century-old buildings that blend Chinese and Western architectural styles, making it a veritable "open-air museum." Visitors can appreciate the retro architectural style, taste local delicacies such as salted mud dumplings, and experience Northeast culture such as storytelling and crosstalk.

There were so many people and tourists that I didn't have time to take in many things. It's like a low-end version of the Forbidden City in Beijing. Many of the artifacts on display were discarded from the Forbidden City. Some rooms were off-limits, so people crowded around the entrances to take photos. There was no lighting inside, so the photos didn't look great. The architecture is still quite distinctive.

I came here because of its reputation, and the environment is indeed very nice. It's quite close to the beach and has parking. There are many European-style buildings inside, some are restaurants, some are creative shops, some are photography studios, and there are also banks, theaters, art galleries, etc. If you just want to see the scenery, a stroll around would take one or two hours, depending heavily on the weather; good sunshine makes for great photos. The creative shops are also worth browsing. It's a very relaxing place, but I didn't have time to visit anything else. Judging from the overall design, the night view should be amazing. If you want to take a small boat, just let them know in advance, otherwise the driver won't point out the camera location, and the photos won't be good.

If we're talking about the most famous attraction in Changli County, Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, it has to be the Aranya Community. Originally a real estate development project intended as a community, it has now transformed into a popular tourist destination. This is because the unique atmosphere created by the cultural heritage and neighborly relations within the Aranya Community makes both residents and visitors feel comfortable. Due to the success of the Aranya project, it's now undoubtedly Changli's must-visit spot for social media check-ins, and it's definitely worth a visit.

The city gate tower is a very representative historical site, and the view from the top is excellent. Many buildings within the city walls have been restored, and it gets very crowded during peak season. Taking photos only in the outer square is free, but it's recommended to buy tickets online in advance to climb the city gate tower.

A highly recommended scenic spot. The red Suaeda salsa, blue sea, and golden rice paddies create a picturesque autumn landscape. It's advisable to check the tide schedule beforehand and visit before high tide, as the morning light is ideal for taking great photos. A great place for family trips, with birdwatching, red-crowned crane releases, crab fishing, and more. Children can learn a lot while having fun.
