I used this service for my child's short-term study abroad program.
The contract was handled by the parent, and just before departure, the child scanned the QR code with their smartphone in Japan to download and activate the SIM.
Upon arrival in Australia, the SIM was activated (simply by turning on the SIM information toggle button in the smartphone's settings) and the roaming toggle button was slid on.
The operation was only these three steps, but the child was able to connect to the local network and communicate effectively.
They also did some sightseeing in Sydney, and unlike some other reviews that mention issues like "no connection" or "slow connection," they reported stable connectivity.
