It's convenient to rent a phone for a couple of days upon arrival, so you can easily call a taxi and do whatever you need to do, and then buy a local SIM card. One phone had two SIM cards, an e-SIM and a local SIM card. The e-SIM coverage in Bali was sometimes worse than the local SIM card, but not critical.

I used it in Thailand and Singapore. I've used eSIM before, but it required QR code scanning and was a bit of a hassle at the airport. However, this eSIM was automatically set up with the push of a button, so I was able to set it up while walking around without any preparation! I used this in KL, Bangkok and Shanghai. Overall the signal was ok. Sometimes we do get a drop out but it’s not often. We managed to use all social media platforms with this eSIM at Shanghai. Only thing is if you want to hail a ride you’ll need a number for it in china.
