Even though I booked the guided trekking tour late in the evening, I was contacted by WhatsApp the next morning to confirm everything. At the appointed time, a very sweet guide named Mickey came to pick me up right at the hotel entrance, along with a group of young and cheerful people. We set off on a trek through local mountain villages. It was very interesting, educational, and colorful, with beautiful, mesmerizing views of the mountains and rice fields. We were shown indigo, which is used to dye fabrics; some of us even dyed our palms with it. At the end of the tour, we were taken to lunch, which was delicious; the food was so fresh and tasty! After lunch, we were dropped off back at our hotels. Everything was wonderfully organized. Thank you for immersing ourselves in the local culture. 😊

Mimi was a great guide. She shared with us her knowledge on the village and led us around so skilfully. Our original guide did not come due to unforeseen circumstances but she readily adopted us in her group. It was lovely trip, definitely recommend.

Before hiring a car, I considered upgrading to a luxury vehicle, but I realized it wasn't necessary because most of the distances were short. Also, most locals hire cars for sightseeing. If you haven't booked a car in advance, you can probably just call any car and ask the driver if they offer a full-day car service. I took an overnight bus to Sabah, and the bus itself included an extra taxi ride from the drop-off point to your hotel; the driver was very proactive in promoting it. Although the drivers didn't speak English, they were very willing to communicate with you using Google Translate, so don't worry about communication issues, as most people only go to the same few places.
