Sertar

Sertar is located on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, in the border area between Sichuan and Qinghai in the northern part of Ganzi Prefecture. The town is the seat of the county government, located in Seke Town. The small town is not large, with several streets laid out in a grid pattern, serving as a common stopover and supply station for tourists entering the Sertar area. "Sertar" means "golden horse" in Tibetan; legend has it that it was named after a horse-shaped piece of gold discovered in Setang in the early years. Prayer flags flutter on the streets, Tibetan restaurants serve butter tea and tsampa, and locals wearing Tibetan robes walk among them. The town is at an altitude of approx. 3893 m, with long winters and no summer. The oxygen content in the air is lower than in the plains, so those arriving for the first time should slow down and prepare enough warm clothing. The town is surrounded by open alpine pastures. In summer, the grass turns green, and yaks and herders' tents are scattered throughout. On the outskirts of the town stands a nine-story demon-subduing pagoda, a stone-and-wood structure that is round inside and square outside, serving as a striking local landmark. The Sertar area is one of the birthplaces of the "Epic of King Gesar," and the Sertar Tibetan Opera is listed as an intangible cultural heritage. Traditional customs, such as the herders' annual Golden Horse Festival, continue to this day. Many people travel specifically to Sertar to catch a glimpse of the Larung Gar Buddhist Academy, located approx. 20 km from the town—the red monk dwellings covering the mountainside from the valley floor to the ridge are a spectacular sight.China · Sertar

Seda Jinma Grassland is vast. Heading north along the Sequ River, on both banks, hundreds of grassy gullies, lush with pasture and blooming with colorful wildflowers, and rolling ridges stretch out to the east and west. Among them are black yaks and white sheep, moving like musical notes, along with pastoral songs, soft as clouds, carried intermittently by the wind. Legend has it that people once discovered horse-head-shaped gold on this grassland, and later generations named it "Sertar" (meaning "Golden Horse") to pray for blessings. Another legend says it was named "Golden Horse" because it was the warhorse left behind by King Gesar, and thus, a unique gold culture emerged. At the same time, the county is rich in gold. It is said that if all the gold in the county's grasslands were mined, it would be enough to cast a golden horse. For these reasons, Sertar County has earned the reputation of being the "Land of Gold."Sertar · 5.3km from downtown

Mandala, also known as mandala, means altar and temple. It is the palace of the dharma world of various deities. Tantric practitioners use it as the object of meditation, and then view their own body as mandala, with the deity resting on the lotus seat of their own heart. They view their body as the deity, never leaving it for a moment. With the passage of time, their body, speech and mind become one with the deity, and they reach the lofty realm of becoming a Buddha in this body. Mandala Pure Land is one of the attractions in Yanzigou of Gongga Mountain, and the most famous ones are Naropa Dakini Mandala and Heruka Mandala.Sertar · 18.1km from downtown

Bipeng Valleyis located in Sologou, Putou Township, Li County, Aba Prefecture. It is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and intact natural ecological landscape. It is a well-known red leaf viewing site in China. If you are not an outdoor player who hikes, it is relatively easy to visit Bipenggou. After buying a ticket at the gate of the Attraction, you can take the Attraction sightseeing bus through Longwanghai Lake and Namu Lake to the Shanghaizi Reception Center. The whole journey is about 30 kilometers. There are snow-capped mountains along the way, and there are many red leaf viewing spots. After arriving at Shanghaizi, you can take a short rest, then you can continue to reach Panyang Lake on foot or take a paid battery car, and return the same way after the tour. You can also choose to hike in Shanghaizi to Yanziyanwo, which is about 10 kilometers long and the road conditions are good. Bipeng Valleyhas its own characteristics in each season, but the recommended time to visit is from September to October in autumn. At this time of year, the maple leaves in the gully are as bright red as fire, and the lake and mountains, together with the surrounding snow-capped mountains, form a charming picture, which is colorful and very artistic. Generally, you don't need to stay overnight when visitingBipeng Valley. Just remember to bring some drinks and high-calorie foods, such as chocolate and beef jerky, when you enter the gorge.China · Li County

Shuangqiaogou got its name from the two wooden bridges in the valley. The ditch is mainly dominated by snow peaks, pastures, grasslands, forests, etc. It is a beautiful ditch in Siguniang Mountain. Walking in the ditch, you can experience the real pastoral scenery. The main scenic spots are Yinyang Valley, Hunter Peak, Sun and Moon Mirror and Five Colors Mountain, etc. For the convenience of traffic, the local people built two wooden bridges in the ditch, one of which was made of willow wood, commonly known as the willow bridge; the other was made of red cedar wood, commonly known as the convenience bridge. Shuangqiaogou got its name from this. The mountains in Shuangqiaogou are steep and tortuous, with lush forests. There are not only the common birch forests and cypress forests in the low mountain areas, but also the spruce, fir, and redwood in the high mountain areas, and even the sea buckthorn, shrubs, and larch. Every spring and autumn, the ditch is colorful and spectacular. There are sightseeing cars in the ditch that go directly to the end of the ditch, so you can enjoy the wonders in the ditch effortlessly.China · Xiaojin

Tips 🫁Altitude Sickness: Take Rhodiola Rosea in advance, move slowly, don't shower or drink alcohol, bring oxygen. Eat lightly upon arrival. 🧥Clothing: Windproof jacket/light down jacket, hat, sunglasses for sun protection. 🙏Etiquette: Remove hats in the prayer hall, no photography, turn prayer wheels clockwise, don't photograph monks, no drones allowed. 🕊️Sky Burial Site: Photography and videography are strictly prohibited. After going through a lot of hardships from Jiuzhi, it took 7 and a half hours to finally reach Seda. Although it is only 378 kilometers, all of them are provincial or county roads, with washboard roads and cannonball roads everywhere. On one side are mountains that may fall rocks at any time, and on the other side are rolling rivers under cliffs. But along the way, the grasslands, mountains, lakes, villages, and temples made us feel that the scenery is on the road again.

The huge and magnificent mandala is located on the highest mountain in the Buddhist Academy. The mandala has three floors. Most people circumambulate on the first and second floors. The first floor is a prayer corridor with a circle of prayer wheels. People circle here every day, morning and evening.

Dongga Monastery is a photographer's paradise in Seda!!! It's a shame it's not more widely known!!! I visited Dongga Monastery this morning. Unfortunately, it was drizzling, overcast, and lacked sunshine. However, I still witnessed its photographic potential. Dongga Monastery is surrounded by ravines, small grasslands, large grasslands, and a winding river. Located halfway up a mountain, it offers excellent views. Morning and evening are both great times for taking photos. I suggest the Seda County Photographers Association take inspiration from Aba County's "Luorinaze Light and Shadow Scenic Area" and promote Dongga Monastery as a photographer's paradise.

This trip to Western Sichuan was such a wonderful surprise! The scenery along the way – from Mount Siguniang to Bipenggou, Jiuzhaigou, and Huanglong – was breathtaking; every shot was a masterpiece. Our tour leader, Mr. Ma, deserves a huge shout-out; he was attentive and responsible throughout the entire trip. Even with the many curves in Western Sichuan, he drove very steadily, giving us peace of mind. The accommodations were also great, offering excellent value for money compared to other options. Overall, it was a very comfortable and enjoyable trip, highly recommended!

The time and address might not be same as stated when you bought the ticket so be sure to contact them. Also, the guide can only speak chinese so in case you dont speak any of chinese it might be trouble for you. It is included the bus to and from mountain and also ticket fee already. Just ensure to get there at informed time. But the view is extremely beautiful. Be careful of the car sickness and height difference. Also prepare the oxygen as you will definitely need it.

My first stop in Western Sichuan, Shuangqiao Valley in Siguniang Mountain, was truly breathtaking! Snow-capped mountains, meadows, forests, and streams accompanied me along the way, making every snapshot a wallpaper-worthy scene. The redwood forest offers panoramic views, and the waters of Siguniang Lake reflect the snow-capped peaks beautifully. From the Potala Peak, you can capture stunning shots of the snow-capped mountains against the backdrop of the highway. A sightseeing bus runs the entire way, taking you directly to the redwood forest for photos. After visiting one attraction, you can simply transfer to the next, avoiding strenuous hiking. The entire trip takes about five to six hours, so please manage your time well, as the scenic area doesn't require much physical exertion. The air in the valley is incredibly fresh, so even at high altitude, you won't feel overly tired. The scenic area is well-managed, with clean restrooms, clear signage, and friendly staff. Whether you want to enjoy the scenery or take photos, Shuangqiao Valley is perfect. If you're visiting Western Sichuan, Shuangqiao Valley is definitely worth a full day to explore at your leisure! Scenery: Fun: Value for Money:
