Things to do in Xiahe

Gangjia Grassland is located in Gangjia Township, Xiahe, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, 33 kilometers north of Xiahe County, and is directly accessible by road. Gangjia Grassland is a meadow grassland, vast and boundless, with an average altitude of more than 3,000 meters. It is one of the main animal husbandry bases in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. There is a reception desk at the Muyun Tent Camp, which prepares fresh milk tea, tsampa, Tibetan buns, hand-pulled mutton and other Tibetan specialties for tourists. It also prepares grassland tourism programs such as horses, yaks, shooting bonfire parties, etc. for tourists. Visitors can fully experience the mysterious and simple Tibetan customs here.

As the first stop in Gannan from Linxia, ​​it's a pretty good tourist attraction, with all three viewing platforms worth taking photos at. However, even during the off-season holidays, the shuttle buses are hard to find, so I can only imagine how ridiculous the queues will be during the summer peak season.

The 3.5km long prayer wheel corridor was impressive, but we arrived too late to enter the core scenic area. We only went to the highest point opposite the main attraction to overlook Labrang Monastery, which is very large, and some parts were still under renovation.

Located at an altitude of 3,200 meters, Xiahe Nordan Camp features Tibetan landscape and grassland culture. Covering an area of ​​44,000 square meters, it offers a business model focused on Tibetan localization and the protection of environmental systems and Tibetan Buddhism. Xiahe Nordan Camp is a 20-minute drive from Labrang Monastery and a few steps from a winding river. The nearest airport is Gannan Xiahe Airport, 36 kilometers away. The rooms at the wooden campsite have wonderful views and comfortable bedding. They provide 24-hour hot water, electric kettles, TVs and shower facilities. Guests can go hiking or horseback riding with a few companions. Xiahe Nordan Camp also provides barbecue facilities for those who want to have a picnic. Camp staff speak Tibetan.

It is a good choice to walk around the lake clockwise along the wooden plank road by the lake. On the way, you can enjoy the clear lake water, the reflection of the winding peaks, the lakeside full of warp and mani piles. You can also pay attention to the surrounding mountains and forests, and have the opportunity to see wild animals such as droughts and floods, small squirrels. It takes about1-2 hours to play the whole process.

A large number of cultural relics have been excavated in Bajiaocheng, such as metal coins, bronze bulls, square bricks, simple tiles and flat tiles from the Tang and Song dynasties. In addition, in the plains, hills and terraces around Bajiaocheng, there are layers of terraces abandoned in ancient times. In some places, the terraces are built all the way to the top of the mountain, which shows how developed the economy and densely populated this place were in the past. Bajiaocheng is located 35 kilometers north of Xiahe County, on the river terrace of Gangjia Grassland.

The Amigonghong Ranch Scenic Area is located in the embrace of the sacred Amigonghong Mountain. Horses and sheep sometimes gallop in the mountains and sometimes eat grass leisurely, which is quite similar to the secluded poetry of the immortal poet Li Bai's "Let the white deer go among the green cliffs."
