The largest buddhist temple in the world! After attended my friend’s wedding in Plataran Hotel, we decided to go to borobudur which is only 15-20 mins away. As we came around 4pm, we only managed to purchase entrance ticket. If you want to go up to the temple, then you have to come early , maybe in the morning. They dont let you climb up the temple after 4pm (if im not mistaken). We bought the tickets on the booth, but it’s better to reserve and buy online. Another amazing day in Indonesia and another amazing experience. This temple is absolutely worth visiting when you’re traveling in Java island. The whole tour is very well organized. Due to protection of the site, visitors enter the site with a guide assigned at the entrance, the whole tour takes about an hour. The fact that visitors enter the site with guides in groups make the whole experience much better. You’ll learn a lot of stories and the history of the temple, explore the whole temple (you’ll have some time to wander around by yourself too) and due to regulated entrance, there won’t be any crowds forming at any moment. This is a 9th-century Buddhist temple in Central Java is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The best city to get to this temple is Yogyakarta. I recommend you to get here by motorbike as the drive across the villages is quite nice and you will have your own time to visit the temple. Most of the tours do sunrise from a view point but then the temple gets very crowded so I will avoid sunrise. I went during the day and it was totally worth it. I will recommend you to get the tickets in advance as they usually sold out if you don’t plan with several days in advance. You have two tickets option, (ground tickets or structure tickets) go for the structure ticket as you will be able to climb the temple, otherwise you will stay on the ground and if you are here it is a must to climb it! Tickets are 455000rp by the time I visited. Once you get to Borobudur they will organise groups to visit the temple as there is a limit on the amount of people who can climb within a time slot. This is to preserve the condition of the temple, they will also give you cute sandals to walk in the temple and you will be able to keep them as a souvenir. It is a beautiful temple, it rained when I got to the top and it was really magical.
