After dinner, I quickly walked across to the well-known Babah Koffie by Kawisari, nestled within the House of Tugu in Kota Tua Jakarta. This café, inspired by the heritage of Kawisari Coffee dating back to the late 19th century, is an enchanting space filled with priceless antiques and cultural artefacts from the Owner's private collections.
The owner, Anhar Setjadibrata, is a Lawyer, Entrepreneur, Hotelier and one of Indonesia's most renowned collectors of Indonesian art and antiquities. He began collecting artefacts in the 1970's with the mission of preserving Indonesia's cultural heritage, which eventually led to the creation of the Tugu Hotels Group and it's museum-like properties and restaurants in Bali, Blitar, Jakarta, Lombok and Malang.
I ordered a delicate pandan cake topped with freshly shredded coconut and a hot cappuccino. The atmosphere was so cosy and evocative that I could easily have lingered there for hours, soaking in the history and ambience - if not for an Online Session waiting later in the night.
