The salt mine has rooms, chapels, statues and underground lakes, like an underground city. There are many artworks, altars and sculptures carved with salt. The Viericka salt mine was the crystallization of medieval labor art. From the 14th century, the Vilicika Salt Mine became one of the mining cities. The 15th ～16th century was the heyday. The 18th ～19th century salt mine began to expand and became a famous salt capital in Poland. It was listed as a national monument in 1976 and was designated as one of the world cultural heritages by the United Nations in 1978.
