I am not someone who travels far very often. Usually, my weekends in Kuwait City are spent quite predictably—cooking a slow meal, reading, or tending to the plants on my balcony. But occasionally, a place justifies the journey, and Six Senses Fort Barwara in India did exactly that. It appealed to my preference for quiet, slow-paced environments, housed in a beautifully restored 14th-century fort.
What I appreciated most was the sheer pacing of the place. It is not a bustling, high-energy resort. There are no loud crowds or rushed itineraries here, which was a massive relief. The atmosphere is incredibly still and private. The weather during my stay was pleasant, though the midday sun gets quite sharp—somewhat familiar, though much milder than what we are used to back home. I quickly learned to plan my day around the light. The early mornings are cool and soft, perfect for sitting on the suite's terrace with a book, watching the sun slowly hit the ancient stone walls and the surrounding wild hills.
If you are planning to visit, I highly recommend staying for at least two nights. Anything less would feel too hurried, and rushing defeats the entire purpose of coming here. A few practical details to note: the afternoon tea and the spa sessions must be booked well in advance, as they strictly limit the number of guests to maintain the quiet atmosphere. Also, save your outdoor strolls for the early morning or around dusk when the temperature drops and the sky turns a beautiful dusty pink and orange. It is a very slow, self-contained experience—perfect for anyone who just wants to pause and appreciate a bit of history in peace.
