After a long-awaited vacation, I visited Italy for the first time in the lesser-known northeastern region of Friuli. I chose the two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Harry's Trieste, located in the Grand Hotel Duchi d'Aosta.
📸🌞If you're lucky in the evening, the setting sun will cast a golden glow on the buildings in the restaurant's main square, making it a perfect spot to sit outside and admire the beauty of the passing time.
🏠The elegant eclectic facade, with its Corinthian columns, floral sashes, and railings featuring iconic Trieste and Mercury statues, exudes understated luxury. 🐶Originally known as the Hotel Vanoli in 1908 and renamed in 1973, this restaurant maintains a refined Central European style and a unique charm.
👨🏻🍳Chef Davide Tonetti of Harry's Trieste is a master of culinary art, expertly blending tradition and innovation, integrating local flavors with modern cooking techniques.
🐮The appetizer features low-temperature-cooked veal with bagnacada mayonnaise and served on savory brioche bread. It resembles an open-faced tartare, with a rich, creamy, and slightly acidic flavor. Paired with a glass of rosé sparkling wine, it's a perfect appetizer.
🐷The main course is thinly sliced slow-cooked pork tenderloin with horseradish ricotta, giving it a prosciutto-like texture. Crispy corn chips coat the sauce and pork, creating a light and airy dish without the greasy feel of traditional pork.
🍜The main course is like a high-end Italian home design. The unique, naturally red beetroot juice is kneaded into the flour to create the pasta, giving it a shimmering red color. The core is cooked to a medium rare, with a firm, chewy texture. The strong blue cheese gives the pasta a rich flavor, perfect for those who enjoy it.
🍐The dessert is port wine-braised pears served with ice cream and a traditional sabayon. The rich custard sauce exudes a distinct wine aroma and is highly recommended.

Absolutely impeccable service and food. From start to finish the food and service was unbeatable. The employee who wears glasses is an especially personable and knowledgeable young lady. She smiled the entire evening and explained each dish in exquisite detail. The chef came out and greeted us at the end. This restaurant should be three Michelin stars.
This was our last night in Trieste and I could not think of a more spectacular way to celebrate our amazing time here. Every facet of this culinary jewel was pitch perfect—from the moment we entered until our last farewells, we were treated like royalty. Each bite astounded with both complexity of flavor and synchrony of presentation, bursting with gifts of ingenuity and delight like nothing we had ever tasted before. And I have no words for the wine—felt like divinely crafted libations. The service was impeccable—knowledgeable and gracious, making a distinct and deeply personal connection. Thank you, Harry’s Piccolo, for giving my husband and I perhaps the best evening at any restaurant in our 48 years of marriage—we loved every single minute.
The Harry's Piccolo restaurant is not as small as the name refers. It is located in piazza Unita İtalia, the most beautiful piazza in Trieste. We had a tasting menu with 7 delicious little courses. Although it is said 7 courses in fact, we started with 5 little amuse boushes, each of which was havenly tasty and followed by a few more little bites and warm home baked bread that is served with both butter from Normandy and the best quality extra virgin olive oil, which was topped up if you wish to have more. We wede offered extra bread when we finished the first loaf. We were full already before the menu started being served. There were two types of tasting menu interaction, 'Sea... Sea... Sea' and 'Interactions'. We opted for the second. The first one was only fish whereas the other was mixed with fish and red meat like rabit, lamb, wuggby and sweetbread etc. The dessert was the best one. The service was to perfection. The staff was very well trained and friendly. They jept changing the napkins, giving wet tissues to clean the fingers. The wine selection was excellent. To us, this restaurant should have been three starred, not two. We have never been to such a good one. We are keen michelin restaurant consumers and went to many of them around the world but not like this. We believe the restaurant will be upgraded soon. Thank you to tge staff and the chef who came to greet us in the end of the dinner.
Interesting cooking with regional touch. Very spicy, some dishes overly spicy - comparable with Amador in Vienna two years ago. Menu highlight is the dessert - fruity, spicy and sweet in perfect combination. Service excellent. Wine list offers sufficient choices
