The Norwegian Opera and Ballet

This opera house with a construction area of 38,500 square meters includes a main theater with about 1,400 seats and two small theaters with 400 seats and 200 seats respectively. The striking appearance of the opera house is the sloping roof covered in white marble. On the water bank, the slopes of different inclinations and directions are connected by turns, which can go all the way from the ground to the top of the roof, and a transparent glass body in the center rises from the white block. This is the origin of the "iceberg". Its roof is very famous, and visitors who come here often go on the roof first and then enter the room. While most buildings are designed to adapt to the needs of their users, the Oslo Opera House's roof design rarely guides and creates user behavior. On the roof, visitors experience the feeling of walking in different positions of the building along different slopes and lines, and watch the surrounding and indoor scenery and people. The roof is also a venue for large outdoor concerts, a skateboarder's paradise, and the backdrop for some outdoor sports and events. It is a real cultural performance building for the public, accepting everyone with an open mind. The designer of the opera house is the Norwegian local architecture firm Snoehetta, which was selected from 350 bidders. When it comes to modern architecture, in most cases, we always look at Western Europe, Southern Europe, the United States, Japan and other places. Despite admiring the reputation of Scandinavian design, the concept is always less well-known small architectural or industrial design, so it has been ignored. This Nordic trip is like a bad supplement. Together with the works of JDS, BIG and other Nordic architectural design firms that I saw along the way, I finally have a new understanding of Nordic architecture.
