The landmark building of the Husavíkurkirkja Husavík church. Built in 1907, the cross-shaped wooden church was designed by architect Rögnvaldurlafsson, who was the first Icelander to learn architecture. The wood used was from Norway. The interior of the church was painted only in 1924, with interiors by painter Freymóur Jóhannsson. The fairy tales are both visually strong features from the Swiss style, which developed in Norway in the second half of the 19th century and originated in Switzerland. It took only a year to build the church of Húsavík. The main gate faces west, while the other is south on the east wing. There is a cross on each wing and a circle around it symbolizing eternity.. The painter Sveinnórarinsson from Kílakot painted the altar of the church in 1930-1931nian. The altar decoration is excellent in many ways. Many people think that the painter background landscape is familiar to the Icelandic environment, such as the mountains from xarfjörur, the lava flow from Kelduhverfi..In addition to being a chapel, the church has long been used as a concert hall, where musicians from Iceland and abroad perform. The church is estimated to accommodate 450 people, but when the church was built, the population of Husavic was only about 500..
