The road from the Ashikita IC to the Sashiki Castle Ruins parking lot was a little confusing at the end, so I went while looking at Google Maps. There is a relatively large free parking lot and there is also a toilet. I got it because there was a leaflet in the bag in front of the toilet. If you climb the slope for about 3 minutes from the side of the magnificent stone monument, you will soon see the stone wall. I have never experienced a place where I can easily access a nice castle ruin. And free. Mostly, I need to climb the mountain castle, so ...
It is a visit by car. Parking and admission fee are free. Since it was a castle built at the end of the Sengoku period and destroyed in the Edo period, a beautiful stone wall with solid construction remains. It is a castle ruin with a good landscape that can be comparable to a famous castle in the sky like Takeda Castle and Tsuwano Castle.
You can drive near the castle, and you will arrive at the castle ruins after walking about 3 minutes from the parking lot. It is well maintained and the stone walls are beautiful. It was in a position with a panoramic view of the surroundings and the scenery was very beautiful.
It is a castle ruin that remains in Ashikita Town, Kita-gun, Kumamoto Prefecture. It was built by a vassal of Kiyomasa Kato who ruled this area during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. After that, there were two battles with the Shimazu family in Satsuma. It was abandoned during the Ikkoku Ichijo Rei (one country, one castle), but still many stone walls remain. The area around the castle ruins is well maintained and is highly recommended for a walk. Also, even if you look at it from the surrounding area, the stone wall at the top of the mountain gives the image of a castle in the sky, and it is a castle ruin recommended for a tour.
