We chose to climb up Mount Ainslie from the War Memorial, although you can also drive or bike to see it. You have to find the starting point before you actually go straight, which is a bit difficult because the signposts are not very good. We parked our car in front of the War Memorial and walked up. It was a good road, some sections were quite steep. You make sure you bring enough water as there was nothing to replenish along the way. Mt Ainslie is one of Canberra's three commanding heights (and the Montenegro Australian TV Tower). It is just north of the Memorial of War, 842 meters high, very close, and easy to reach.
