My husband and I are self-proclaimed rock hounds from Minnesota and we like to travel around the States to find what each area has to offer. We researched some of the popular mines in the area and luckily landed with Twin Creek Crystal Mine. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by David and he openly explained the mine operations to us. Within a few minutes he offered us a gorgeous crystal cluster to keep!...I thought he was just showing us an example of what we may find during our dig. When I mentioned I was a teacher and interested in finding little crystals for my students, he gave me more! David stated that he finds so much joy in giving people crystals from their mine and wants everyone who comes to visit to have a great time regardless if they find crystals or not....however, there's no way anyone wouldn't find their own crystals; the mine was full of absolutely beautiful crystals that were so clear and untouched/unmarred by heavy machinery. We even returned the next day to talk with David (and Bobby) and to see some of his personal crystal specimens that have been pulled from their mine over the years. We would rate Twin Creek Crystal Mine a 10+++ out of 10. Before going to Twin Creek, we scouted out Wegner's Crystal Mine and planned on taking a mine tour with them as well. However, we were not impressed with the retail aspect of their operation and how they import all types of rock specimens to sell rather than focus on the authentic Arkansas crystal mining experience. While talking with one of Wegner's staff, I reached down onto the roadway and picked up a tiny crystal about the size of a pencil eraser and was promptly told to, "Read the sign, DO NOT PICK UP ANY CRYSTALS FROM THE GROUND". I actually laughed but then dropped the tiny crystal as I realized he was serious. And all I was trying to do was show my husband just how prevalent the crystals were in the area; not keep it for myself. The vibe of Wegner's Crystal Mine was NOT for us.
