Freemantel prison, built in 1850 and nearly 200 years old, was designed to house cheap British prisoners who later became the earliest Australian immigrants, which was ironic. The prison is very advanced in design, although it has been more than 100 years old, but it is not much different from the modern prison, it is really unimaginable.
Ferimantle Prison is a must-see spot in Ferimantle Town, where you can stay for half a day. There are several kinds of tickets. The cheapest one is to visit the prison. The most expensive one is to visit the prison at night and experience the escape tunnel.
There are two routes in the daytime: the routine route and the escape route, which are one hour and half hours respectively. They are usually purchased together. Cover is the main body on both sides of the prison, accompanied by professional commentators. A small partner with poor English can rent a Chinese commentator for 5 knives (I haven't personally tested it yet), but it's a pleasure to watch his grandmother use it. If you stay longer, you can take part in the night route of the prison. Each person will send a small torch and sneak into the gloomy prison. In addition, there is an art show on Thursday evening, the first week of each month. For details, please refer to the brochure at the prison entrance.
Freemantle Prison has a history of more than 100 years. It was a place where prisoners from Britain were detained during the former colonial period. Now it has been abandoned. Although it has a hundred years of history, but the prison design is very advanced, almost no difference from modern prisons, where you can see the prisoners'life, work, activities scene, feel quite novel.
Freemantle is a small town around Perth, about 20 kilometers away from Perth. It can be reached by tram (like a train in my opinion) for about 20 minutes, with an interval of about 20 minutes. It was the place where prisoners were detained since colonial times. Until 1991, it was used as a prison and belonged to the World Heritage Site. Therefore, the prisons here were so famous that the prison for female prisoners was transformed into a youth hostel. It was very popular, especially difficult to book. We booked it six months in advance. The living conditions are very good. The family rooms have independent bathroom, air-conditioned TV, the kitchen in public places, the dining room and the activity room. The front side photos of the female prisoners hanging on the corridor and the door give people the gloomy feeling of prison.
