Yidan Elementary School の School Court の South Side
Original Text
I was wondering what kind of monument it was, so when I looked it up, it was a monument of Kamishima Oninuki, a poet from Itami. He was a haiku poet along with Basho Matsuo, and was said to be "Basho in the East, Oninuki in the West".
It's a very local story, but at Itami elementary school, there are many classes to write haiku, and I've heard the story of Mr. Oninuki from an early age. It is 1 of the charm of the city that such a monument is everywhere!
It is a monument built on the south side of the schoolyard of Itami Elementary School, about 3 minutes walk from Hankyu Itami Station. At the top, the figure of Okinawan, written by Buson Yosano, is carved. At the bottom, the phrase "The Voice of Insects Without Susumizu" is engraved. Okinuki (Kamishima Okinuki) is a Haikai artist in the mid Edo period. In Itami City, there is also a monument to Okinuki. If you are interested, why not go around?
