#17 of Best Things to Do in New York

The history of the memorial began in 2003, when the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation announced a competition for the best monument design. No sane person doubted that a memorial was necessary, but it was also clear that a truly unique project was needed. As a result, in 2004, the project "Reflection of Absence" was announced as the winner of the competition, authored by American-Israeli architect Michael Arad from Handel Architects. Landscape designer Peter Walker helped him create the project. The project provided for the creation of two pools with the largest artificial waterfalls in the United States, which would cascade from the edges of the pools located exactly in the places where the skyscrapers stood. The area of each pool is 4 thousand square meters. meters, and both of them symbolize the human tragedy and the emptiness that remained after the terrorist attacks. As for the surrounding landscape created by Walker, it includes 4 hundred eucalyptus trees and white oaks planted on the territory of Memorial Plaza.

This scene is often seen in large American films: behind the majestic Washington statue, there are eight columns of Greek temple-style majestic buildings. Because it is the site of Washington's swearing-in as president, the National Memorial Hall of the Federation has become a place for patriotic education; because it is close to the Trinity Church, the copper cattle, and the cruise ship terminal, it has become a must-have road for Chinese tourists, and it has been a bustling and endless flow of people.

The popular venue for American football games, you can enjoy the Dragons game and the Long Islanders game. It is especially exciting. There will be concerts when there are concerts, but tickets are not easy to buy.

General Grant's National Memorial can be visited with the Riverside Church. It is far from the noisy area of tourists. There are not many people to visit, but for those who like history and like to visit museums, it is recommended to come and visit. Not only has historical value but also the surrounding scenery is very good.

Came on September 18, 2017. I heard that there is a "gay street" in Greenwich Village, so I found it was just a quiet alley. It was only after a look that the street was called Gay Street, probably because the land was originally owned by the colonial era's owner, Gay, and was not related to LGBT. However, this Gay Street not far from Christopher Park and Stonewall Inn is a real LGBT holy place, where the gay rights movement sprang up, which has a profound impact on the United States and the world. That is why it has been listed as a "relics protection unit" by the United States government. There are few tourists here on weekdays, but it is indeed a place worth visiting. Although it doesn't take much time to visit, you can feel the diverse and inclusive spirit of modern civilization when you see the sculptures and exhibition boards in the park, the rainbow flags hanging in the surrounding bars, and the rainbow-colored zebra crossings on the road.

The Jedson Memorial Church seems to be open only on weekends, so we couldn't visit it on Monday. Very beautiful church. Although it is not clear what architectural style is, it is as beautiful as the old buildings around it.
