江之浦测候所，是杉本博司的一座海边美术馆，他在运用材质、光影、玻璃的天赋给我留下了深刻的印象。在相模湾的海边，杉本博司建造了自己的精神庙宇。幼年时期的杉本博司，从热海到小田原的电车上看到的海的景色，是他最初的记忆，是他作品哲学思考的起点。十多年前有机会在这获得一块土地，得以将他的思考通过建筑呈现出来。这个建筑最本真的思考，与博物馆里展出的杉本博司拍摄作品海景系列作品同源：将人类最古老的记忆在现代人里脑子复苏。长廊则是建立在断崖上，在长廊的一端有展望台可以眺望相模湾。重要的一刻会发生在每一年的夏至这一天。据说在那天，日出的太阳会刚好角度端正地照进画廊，不依靠人工光源而完全依仗自然的力量，从而将整座建筑点亮，这便是杉本博司所谓的天象之时。“夏至光遥拜”之名也正源于此。长廊里放置的是杉本博司海景系列作品7幅。杉本博司还尝试了日本古建筑的复兴。和冬至光参拜隧道平行，面向大海的是光玻璃舞台。舞台的木质基底，使用日本几乎绝迹的“悬造”技艺。
