Located near the Benteng Kuto Besak plaza, the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum specifically displays the history of the city of Palembang from the time of Srivijaya to the Palembang Sultanate. The museum was originally a palace belonging to the Palembang sultanate named Keraton Kuto Kecik or Keraton Kuto Lamo which used to be mostly made of wood and later turned into the house of the Commissioner of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Palembang.
