After the slave owners died, the slaves were buried as funeral objects for the slave owners. It’s really magnificent to see the scale as well as number of warriors uncovered, yet there are much more left uncovered. Reason is because current technology is not able to preserve the paintwork on the warriors which we are told will peel off and scatter when exposed to the current environment. One has to see it with our own eyes to appreciate the grandeur of what has been left behind for us to appreciate. Need to understand that there are a lot of visitors so there is a lot of jostling for positions to take photos so be physically and mentally prepared. Pits 1 and 3 have no air conditioning and with the number of visitors, it can get really hot. There’s lots of photos of the warriors in pit 1 so I am sharing a few photos from pit 3 where excavations are still ongoing. Have fun and enjoy your trip there.

Terra-cotta Warriors is a must-see place in Xian. It is considered one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world, and one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century. It was built to protect Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China and his tomb. The emperor thought these soldiers and horses would protect him in the afterlife and could conquer with the enemies. The Terracotta Army was discovered on March 29th, 1974 by a group of farmers. It consists of 3 main pits. Pit 1 is the largest and most impressive pit. People mostly take pictures here. Every figure differs in facial features and expression, hairstyle and gestures. When you go to Terra-cotta, you need to have a guide. The cost for a guide service is 200¥. There is an English speaking guide, which is good for those who can't understand Chinese. The guide is telling lots of details about Terracotta Warriors, even things that you can't find online. By the way, don’t forget 3D warriors video, which is 68¥. Especially recommended. When you’re watching the 3D, there’s a feeling that you’re one of the warriors. It’s a breathtaking moment. I enjoyed it a lot. Date: July 13, 2022
