The Usuyama Ropeway 🚡 is a popular tourist attraction in Toyako Town, Hokkaido, Japan. It allows visitors to get up close and personal with the active volcano 🌋. The cable car connects the Noboribetsu Cable Car Station at the base of the mountain to the Usuyama Observatory at the summit. The Usuyama Ropeway was built in 1962. The Usuyama Geopark was designated a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2006. Mount Usu is an active volcano, erupting every few decades, creating its unique volcanic topography. The cable car takes approximately 6-8 minutes one way, and from the summit, visitors can enjoy 360-degree views of Lake Toya and the surrounding forests 🌳. On clear days, Mount Yotei can even be seen. At the base of the mountain, must-see attractions include the souvenir shop "Hi no Kuniya Honpo" and the "Firework Experience Room," where visitors can experience the powerful sounds and gentle vibrations of an eruption and watch a documentary film about the eruption. Opening Hours: Typically 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM daily (last bus at 3:30 PM). Winter hours may change, so please check the official website. The latest information as of 2025 indicates it's open year-round, but closed in bad weather.
