2023 Australia Public Holiday Travel Guide

Your first ten-day stint is going to take advantage of the four-day Easter weekend (Fri 7 Apr – Mon 10 Apr). Take the next four days off with your annual leave (Tues 11 Apr – Fri 14 Apr) and that will take you right through to the next weekend for ten days in total.

That will hopefully get you through to October when we come to Labour Day on the 2^nd (ACT, NSW and SA), or the King’s Birthday for QLD. Take Friday 29 Sep off (who wants to work Friday’s anyway?), then the public holiday is on the Monday. Take 4 days annual leave from the 3^rd to the 6^th, and combined with the weekends there’s your second ten-day getaway. If you’re in Victoria work around the Grand Final Day holiday rather than Labour Day.

And that brings us to the third and final long break, the Christmas/New Year Break. We start off with the 23^rd and 24^th of December which is the weekend, Monday and Tuesday are public holidays for Christmas and Boxing Day, then you’ll want to take annual leave from Wednesday 27^th to Friday 29^th. Put together with the weekend on the 30-31^st December and the New Year’s Day public holiday on Monday the 1^st and you’re once again looking at a ten-day break.

While it might seem like you’ve used up all your leave, you’ll actually have 8 days left to use as you please. Obviously, you can add a day of leave to make a 3-day weekend, but try to combine the public holidays for a 4-day break. This part will completely vary depending on what state you’re in so we’ll leave this up to you. Here’s a list of the holidays and their respective dates to help you plan:
