FAST WATERCOLOR LANDSCAPES:Monday, 2:00 – 4:30 pm, December 30 | pARTiculars Art Gallery and Teaching Studio
Dec 30, 2024 (UTC-7)ENDED
Lafayette
Adults & Teens 13 and over – Minimum 2, maximum 8 Prerequisite: Some basic previous watercolor experience, such as a beginning watercolor class is preferred but not required. This class is good stepping-stone to follow a beginning watercolor class after basic watercolor techniques have been learned (See my Beginning Watercolor class). Or, if you have done watercolor before but it has been a while and you are a little rusty it is a good refresher class. If you are experienced but want to also learn to paint in a looser quicker style this class is for you. Finally, if already know how to paint with watercolor but just want to get together with others and paint this class could also be fun and you may learn some new techniques. For each class, we will complete a small watercolor landscape from start to finish. There will be different techniques used in each class. The total “painting time” will be less than the 2-1/2 hour class to allow for discussion and demonstrations. Some possible examples will be a cloudy landscape, a rainy-day landscape, rolling country hills, a simple beach scene, misty mountains, etc. Reference image to be decided on the day of the class. Input from the students signed up is encouraged. The skills learned in this class will also easily translate to plein air style painting. Each class will have a different landscape subject so you can sign up for multiple classes if you wish. Bring to class: You may bring your own supplies if you wish, but paint, brushes and a paper will be included as part of the class. Contact: Laurie Adams, laurieadams588@yahoo.com; phone #720-326-0729

LAURIE’S WATERCOLOR FIX IT CLASS:Saturday 10am–12:30pm, February 15th | pARTiculars Art Gallery and Teaching Studio
Feb 15, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Lafayette
Do you have a watercolor painting (or two or three) that you never finished? Perhaps you took a class but ran out of time and the painting was never finished. Perhaps you got “stuck” on a part of it and never finished because you didn’t know how. Do you have a painting that you like parts of it, but other parts have issues, and you are afraid to do more to it without ‘messing it up?’ I call them “problem children.” You are attached to them, but they need a little extra love. Have you taken previous watercolor lessons and have been painting on your own but now would like a ‘second pair of eyes on some of your work to see how it is progressing? Would you like a gentle critique on some of your paintings to identify areas you can improve upon and how? Don’t worry, a critique is purely optional. Finally, also if you have a reference photo of something you would like to paint but don’t know how to approach it, bring those images in and we can discuss them. We will learn (re-learn) things such as fixing or minimizing ‘blooms’, softening hard edges and other ways to fix errors in painting. For this class we will be working on your own existing artwork not creating new work, but some demonstrations on separate paper may be done to learn and identify ways to fix or finish a painting. As mentioned above there may be some gentle critiquing done of the artwork by the instructor, but it is only offered with love and the desire to improve your skills. This class will be fairly organic in its approach, depending on the needs of the students. You can also repeat this class if you need more help. Bring to class: Bring your “problem paintings.” Let’s limit them to three per person. They may or may not all be worked on. You may want to bring another project to work on in case your other projects are fixed quickly. Bring your own supplies so that you have the materials you used on the original artwork. However, additional paint, brushes, paper and other supplies will be provided if needed for demonstration purposes. Instructor: Laurie Adams (www.loreleiarts.us) Adults & Teens 13 and over – Minimum 2, maximum 8 Prerequisite: Some basic previous watercolor experience, such as a beginning watercolor class is preferred. Pete Froehlich “Connections” | Glassell Gallery
Apr 17, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Lafayette
Pete Froehlich “Connections” Pete Froehlich offers an intimate look at the different types of spaces where we seek connections with each other and the objects that occupy and influence those spaces. A buffet style service, a potluck gathering of friends or family, and the semi-private nature of a cup of your favorite beverage; each provides a different opportunity for the development and strengthening of relationships with each other. Each space has its own language of movement and functional ceramic pieces to facilitate and bear witness to the intimacy of our interactions with each other. Concurrently, in Parts That Cannot Be Found, Amber Baggette reflects on the constancy and safety she felt growing up in Southwest Louisiana forests, which have since been destroyed by industry. Her intaglio and lithographic prints connect environmental destruction with the abuse she experienced as a child. These two exhibitions will be on view April 12–19 with a reception scheduled for Thursday April 17 from 6–8 p.m. Both artists will give a gallery talk: Froehlich will speak at 5:30 p.m. and Baggette will speak at 5:45 p.m. For more details and to see other upcoming MFA Thesis Exhibitions visit https://design.lsu.edu/news-and-events/exhibits/
