The sessions are for Primary School age children who are complete beginners who don't know how to ride a bike. We will provide support and a safe space to improve and learn whatever point they are at in their cycling journey. Each session will involve a warm up and fun games while learning to ride or build confidence in their cycling skills in a fenced, traffic free environment. The sessions are free and will be run by qualified cycling coaches. Sign up for one or several sessions - whatever suits, but please cancel your slot if unable to attend. We want to make sure as many children as possible can benefit from these sessions. Bring a water bottle, bike, helmet and gloves. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and remove any stabilizers before the session if possible. Thank you! Spring Foraging Walk - Wild Flowers, Herbs and Greens | Almondell & Calderwood Country Park

Join me for a foraging walk, searching for wild greens, botanicals and edible fungi. In the spring we will be sure to find the beautiful few flowered leek, wild garlic, explore the carrot family & could even find some monstrous Japanese knotweed. Summer walks will examine the carrot family in flower, as well as medicinals such as yarrow and plantain. In the autumn we will also discover fungi such as oysters, dryads saddle and giant polypore.
Ambling through the trees and alongside the Almond we will explore how to make wild food a staple and the benefits of doing so - from the nutritional to the cultural and philosophical. Throughout the morning gather the basic skills required to identify common edibles as well as how to avoid poisonous & inedible lookalikes. We will also collect a little of the wild garlic and leek to take home and try, so do bring a tupperware or brown bag.
The walk should last ~3 hours with the opportunity to stay a little later to ask chat and ask questions. We will meet outside the visitor center, where icecream and snacks are available. Suitable for all ages with children welcome - individual or family tickets. As we will finish by the playpark, this is the ideal loction for keen young foragers. Accessible via public transport.
Under 5s are free to attend, and older child tickets are £5. To purchase these please contact me directly.

Crocheting looks pretty impressive, and maybe a little intimidating. Don't worry - its all for show! Crocheting is all about wrapping the yarn around a hook and pulling it though holes. Really once you've got the hang of that - you're a crocheter!
This workshop will start you off with the basic skills, techniques and stitches that you need to make crocheting your new 'thing'.
Crocheting is an enjoyable and relaxing hobby that can help you to recharge and regroup in times of stress. It's an accessible way to look after your wellbeing and mental health as well as being fun and helping you feel productive!
This workshop takes place at The West Calder Hub in West Lothian, where there will be tea cofee and biscuits available.
All materials and equipment will be provided, and you will even leave with your own crochet hook and yarn to carry on your practice at home!

Vessels On Loan In a recent survey for museums, it said that a person spends on average 28 seconds looking at a piece of art. This exhibition offers the visitor an opportunity to have a little more time with an artwork, to understand how the relationship to it can grow or change, in the comfort of their own home. “As an artist I spend a lot of time living with my own work after I have made it. I hope that this will enhance the experiences of the Beautiful Materials exhibition, by connecting your home to the Linlithgow Burgh Halls Gallery Space” Nicola Atkinson. The residents of Linlithgow and the surrounding area can borrow one of the Beautiful Materials art pieces for the duration of the exhibition. 23 May - 18 June you can select the artwork, which is numbered in the scale model of the gallery, which is located in the Linlithgow Burgh Halls Gallery Space. It is open from 9 - 5pm. Book here either on Wednesday 2 July 7 - 9pm and or Wednesday 16 July 7 - 9pm to pick up the framed artwork from the artist at the Linlithgow Burgh Halls Gallery Space. The artwork is a choice of a vessel on velvet, in a 25cm x 25cm white box frame and can be hung or sit on a shelf. This is a chance to spend more time with the artwork in your own home. Beechbrae and Nature Scot are teaming up to run 4 summer outdoor activity sessions this Summer. These will be held at both Beechbrae and Blawhorn Moss (always starting at Beechbrae) and are open to young people from P5 and up. The sessions will run from 10-2. We will be outside the whole time so please wear outdoor clothing & shoes (think nettles). We will meet in the car park at Beechbrae Woodland Centre.
Thursday 3rd of July- Bushcraft (Ticketed £1)
Friday 4th of July- Bugs & Butterflies (Ticketed £1)
Thursday 24th July - Birds & Den Building (Ticketed £1)
Friday 25th July- Blawhorn Moss (Ticketed £1)

Suitable for children aged 4 - 11 years old, this family friendly tour goes through over 400 years of daring Dalyell adventures. From pet sea anemones to fierce royalist warriors the Dalyell family history is truly remarkable. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for hidden peacocks throughout the tour!
P lease be aware that our collection can be delicate therefore we limit what can be handled on the tour to a minimum. Children should be supervised at all times during your visit.
