The band formed in 2022, when we started talking about doing a different kind of big band using technology usually found in the pop field. So as well as the traditional band, for arrangements that need more than we can provide on the spur of the moment, technology is used to provide anything from strings to percussion (and even a lion roar in one arrangement - see if you can spot that!) in a seamless mix of warm air (the humans) and something called Ableton (the technology). This allows the band to manage all sorts of tracks, from all sorts of eras, all while maintaining a sounds and feel which suits all ages, and all ears, and for the moment, not a hint of Glenn Miller! Pierre Novellie in conversation Comedian Pierre Novellie was on stage when a heckler suggested he was autistic. Usually, this disruption would be water off a duck's back but two things made this heckler different: first, he was himself autistic. Second, he turned out to be absolutely right. This random encounter led to a diagnosis of autism at the age of 31 that unravelled his world, explained his struggles and answered questions that had bothered him for his entire life. He will be in conversation with writer and performer Erin McGathy, to discuss his book Why Can’t I Just Enjoy Things?: A Comedian’s Guide to Autism, his late diagnosis and his writing process. These lessons are for people who want to learn to ride a bike in a traffic free environment. With all equipment provided, our experienced instructor will guide you step by step, from getting on and off the bike to building up your balance and your confidence. The instructor will work with you to assess your needs and to get you pedalling in a friendly, stress-free manner, at your pace. The lessons are delivered in a traffic-free area of the car park in front of Victoria Hall. We meet at the cycle store behind the leisure centre, accessed via the carpark near the blue swimming slide. Sketchbook Satchel - the art class that prepares you to travel! Join us at the Banora Point Community Centrefor an exciting art class that will unleash your creativity and get you ready for your next adventure! Located at Banora Point, our in-person event is perfect for art enthusiasts who love to travel. The first hour is spent focusing on a particular drawing skill. Mrs Red, a qualified Art Teacher & Illustrator prints off worksheet for this hour for everyone to follow. Then after a short break, we get into sketchbook drawing from colour printouts that Mrs Red supplies, usually with timed images starting from as quick as 2 minute sketches up to 20 minutes. All you need to start these classes is a sketchbook and drawing pencils. I also encourage you to bring other art supplies you may have at home like coloured pencils, watercolours, gouache, pan pastels, coloured marker pens and crayons. 1959. Rothko’s studio. Mark Rothko (played by Joseph Lynch) is a world renowned painter who has been commissioned to paint murals for the Four Seasons restaurant in New York. In this workshop, you will be encouraged to try different floor movements. You will be guided through a variety of fun movement patterns and skills - varying difficulty and plenty of progressions will allow you to learn at your own pace while being able to find joy in this movement experience. The aim of this workshop is to equip you with the basic and intermediate elements of floor locomotions, floor work, and soft acrobatics (Think accessible, yet challenging funky adultobatics!). Through this workshop, you will gain practical tools to build your own enjoyable physical practice that's playful, grounding, and meditative. Workshop content: Floor locomotions - this section is focused on moving on all fours in funky and creative ways. We'll explore crab walks, bear crawls, and many other movement patterns. Floorwork - introduction to several gentle rolling techniques and further exploration of modified floor locomotions that allow for more creativity and freedom of movement. Soft acrobatics - this is my favourite section! I will introduce you to the world of low-impact soft acrobatics like cartwheels, more rolling, and how to break down more complex movement patterns in a safe and accessible way. Even though this part might sound a bit scary, especially for someone without an acrobatic background, all participants will be able to work at their own pace and fitness level while learning new skills. Each section will consist of three parts: isolation, integration, and improvisation. This means that we'll start by learning individual moves, then start working on building movement flows and sequences, and finally, we'll learn how to improvise with those skills working towards grounding flow states. Everyone will be encouraged and supported to gently step outside their comfort zones to learn new skills and sequences. Above all, the aim is to have a lot of fun, learn to move in unique ways, and get creative with our bodies. Note: Limited spots available, so secure your place now!
