About the book
Charley Beekman is thriving. Is she financially strapped, languishing in her legal career, and very likely the youngest divorcee at the Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse on a Friday night? Yes. But, now that she’s accepted the flaws inherent in all romantic relationships, she finally has life all figured out! She’s definitely due for an upswing.
So when her free-spirited sister announces her plan to elope with her messy on-again-off-again childhood sweetheart, Charley knows she has to stop the wedding, even if it means road-tripping into the northern woods of Minnesota in a camper van with her childhood best friend, Ethan, who’s as gorgeous as he is chronically unreliable.
But when their cozy journey ignites a spark she’s tried to ignore for years, Charley tries to write off her feelings as fleeting. Because after failing at marriage so spectacularly with the most responsible man she’s ever known, Charley definitely shouldn’t risk it all for her non-committal, nomadic, musician best friend . . . right?.
About the author
Ellie Palmer is the author of
Four Weekends and a Funeral,
a carrier of the BRCA1 mutation, and a prototypical Midwesterner who routinely apologizes to inanimate objects when she bumps into them. When she’s not writing romantic comedies featuring delightfully messy characters, Ellie’s at home in Minnesota, eating breakfast food, watching too much reality television, and triple texting her husband about their son.

Deadapalooza! The 2025 Annual Testify Deadlift Festival | Testify Strength & Conditioning
Aug 15, 2025 (UTC-5)
Omaha
The annual Testify Deadlift Festival is a strength meet wherein the only contested lift is - you guessed it - the deadlift. There are no weight classes for this meet, but there is a weigh-in for each lifter, and lifters can weigh-in during one of the following periods:
Thursday, 08/14/25, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Friday, 08/15/25, from 5:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Friday, 08/15/25, from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
There will be one bar (possibly multiple bars if numbers dictate), and the meet will be conducted in a "rising bar" format, so the weight on the bar only goes up! A lifter gets three attempts and can attempt any of the predetermined loads (see below) as the weight on the bar continues to climb throughout the evening (but a lifter can only attempt a given weight once). As part of the three attempts, the lifter may also attempt a final weight of his choice (this weight must be a multiple of 5 lb and marks the lifter's final attempt regardless of the outcome). A lifter stops lifting voluntarily, after three attempts, or after his final chosen weight, whichever occurs first.
Loads
105, 115, 125, 135, 145, 155, 165, 175, 185, 195,
205, 215, 225, 240, 255, 270, 285, 300, 315,
345, 375, 405, . . . (weight on bar increases in 30 lb increments after 315 lb)
There will be awards in both male and female divisions for heaviest weight lifted, best Wilks score (all ages), and best Wilks-McCulloch (masters) score.
You may consult the rules found
here
for the deadlift movement standards. PLEASE NOTE the requirement for long socks: "Long socks that extend to just below the knee and completely cover the shin and calf must be worn in the deadlift to allow the bar to slide against the legs and to avoid blood from the competitors from contacting the bar." In lieu of long socks, lifters may compete wearing pants covering the entire leg (i.e., ankles to hips) such as sweatpants or leggings.
Registration runs until 08/14/25, and there are regular and late registration rates, so register soon!
FAQs
Are singlets required?
Nope.
Are sumo deadlifts allowed at the meet?
No, they are not. You can take as wide of a stance as you like, but your feet must be inside of your hands.
Are lifting straps allowed?
Nope.
Is this event run like a typical strengthlifting or powerlifting meet?
Heck no. If you're looking for a rigid and formal meet structure, this ain't it, folks. Music will be playing, costumes are encouraged, and the judges may be eating and drinking while performing their duties.
What's the refund policy?
All sales are final; refunds will not be provided.
Is it OK if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends and competes?
Registration should match the name of the participant. Please contact phil.meggers@testifysc.com if there are extenuating circumstances that make this impossible.

Student Exhibition | Pat Hanly Creativity Awards | Auckland Art Gallery
Aug 16–Aug 31, 2025 (UTC+12)
Auckland
Held annually, the Pat Hanly Creativity Awards acknowledge Pat Hanly’s outstanding contribution to New Zealand contemporary art and his passion for art education and supporting young artists. The awards highlight the crucial role of art education in shaping future creatives and connecting them with the wider art community.
Now in its 23rd edition, the awards have evolved into a collaborative project. The journey begins with school visits to the Gallery, where over 1000 ākonga (students) gather inspiration in exhibitions and artist-led workshops. Back in their classrooms, they then create their own artworks in response to a theme. This year’s theme is Ko Wai Au? Who Am I?
This exhibition features a selection of the top submissions, chosen by Gallery staff for their outstanding creativity, originality and skill. Displayed within the Gallery, these young artists’ works are placed in conversation with our other exhibitions and taonga (treasures), creating meaningful connections across generations of artists from Aotearoa.
Fat Tire Tour of Green Bay 2025 | Ned Kelly's Pub
Aug 16, 2025 (UTC-5)
Green Bay
Want a tour of Green Bay like never before?
Then join us for the 9th Annual Fat Tire Tour of Green Bay!
We change the route and the stops every year. If you have done this before it will be a completely new experience. This annual group bike ride has had a long history in Milwaukee (for over 40 years!), and in 2017 we branched out to a new location:
Green Bay
. Why? Well, why the heck not?
THE RIDE
The ride leaves at 10:00am from Ned Kelly's Pub (show up by 9am to check-in or register)
We'll ride to 4-5 "bar/brewery/food" stops over a 6-7 hour period, covering 15-20 miles. We'll stay together as a group for the most part with scheduled stops, but you are free to bike at your own pace. There will be games, contests and shenanigans for all!
At the end of the day, we'll stop at the Green Bay Bike Collective shop for an end party with more games, drink, and raffle prizes.
See what you're getting into by watching the
2019 highlight video
.
THE ROUTE
The route is an unmarked open course, but you'll get a handy dandy map & schedule when you arrive to the start. As tradition stands, we won't release the route details until the morning of the event. Why? Because that's just the way it is, and surprises are way more fun than not surprises.
THE THEME: FLANNEL vs DENIM!
It's not enough to just bike around town. You need to do it in style. Make a statement. Be prepared to defend your "theme team." There will be games and contests throughout the day to decide the winning theme team. (We decided to change the theme format from the long-standing Milwaukee event. You may be familiar with the traditional movie theme for the FTTM. Instead, the Green Bay event will pair two random, generic themes against each other for a day-long battle. Which theme team will prevail?!?!)
FOOD & DRINK TOKENS
This event uses a token system for drinks and food throughout the day. We arrange a limited selection for each stop with special discounted rates. The token system gets you a better deal, and it also speeds up the process for the bartenders/servers. You'll have the option of purchasing tokens in the morning and throughout the day.
Do you HAVE to use tokens? Nope. If you want something that's not on the event's arranged selection you can just pay the bar rate. If you're okay with the event selection, then we'd recommend purchasing tokens. We'll provide a list of the drink selections in your "ride guide" that you'll get at check-in.
ALL RIDERS WILL GET:
An high-quality event T-shirt
A bicycle bottle opener keychain
A surprise collectible item
An AMAZING HEALING POWER OF BEER sticker
Drink and food specials all day long
Chances to win free prizes along the tour
TICKETS
$35 Early Bird Registration (Ends July 31st)
$40 General Registration (Ends August 8th)
$45 Day-of Registration (August 16th)
FAQs:
Do I need a fat bike to join the ride?
No! All bikes are welcome.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Any age limit is welcome, but the nature of this event is geared towards ages 21+. Admittance into each stop is up to the facility's discretion.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The closest parking ramp is the Cherry Street Ramp. Learn more about parking in Downtown Green Bay here: http://www.downtowngreenbay.com/parking
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Any questions or comments can be directed to events@fattiretour.com
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
No.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
We will have a list of all registrants at the event, but tickets are appreciated. Please bring your ID.
What is the refund policy?
No refunds are available, sorry.

Thank you for your time and expertise… I learnt a great deal. The pace was perfect and I loved the sensory extension…” A lovely atmosphere generated by Jennifer's joy in botanical art and her ability to include and enthuse students I love Jennifer's teaching style very clear, well structured but relaxed, positive, encouraging and informative “Jennifer was awesome, took us through step by step, especially about the observation aspect and construction of the subject, I would go to her classes again.” This class will change how I approach drawing, for the better I discovered that I really enjoyed the act of focused observation… I know that attempting to draw something will make me much better acquainted with my subject’s characteristics. The guide was excellent and I will use that going forward - especially useful for me when trying to articulate what makes a plant different from a somewhat similar variety. Click now to book!

2nd Annual Dr. Matthew Latacha Memorial Bike Ride | West Papio Trail-MillardTrailhead
Aug 31, 2025 (UTC-5)
Omaha
Please join us to honor the life of Dr. Matthew Latacha with a 9 or 18-mile bike ride on the West Papio Trail (run/ walk options also).
Last year, we raised nearly $4200 for Bike Walk Nebraska and I am thrilled to report that the money we raised led to the passing of LB 530. This law defines "vulnerable road users" and elevates the penalty for motor vehicle homicide when a vulnerable road user is involved. THANK YOU for your support in protecting pedestrians and cyclists.
This year, we are excited to support two different projects:
1) We are partnering with Go Red for Women to sponsor a healthy cooking demonstration at the Expo on October 21st. Proceeds support the
American Heart Association
. Matthew was a brilliant cardiologist and exceptional chef who cooked for his family daily. He was passionate about healthy cooking, sustainable ingredients, great food, and of course, heart health. This seems like the perfect opportunity to honor those passions!
We have committed to a $7500 sponsorship and I think we can do it!
2) A fellow physician and friend from our gym had the brilliant idea to contact the Omaha Parks Foundation for permission to install a pull-up bar along the Zorinsky Trail with a memorial plaque dedicated to Matthew. The bar will be located near the parking lot on the northeast side of 168th street. Our friend is funding a substantial portion of the cost, but we are hoping to cover the rest. He also plans to continue this project along other area trails. This project is just beginning, but the foundation is excited to support this effort.

Threads of Time: Travel, Trade & Textiles | Auckland Art Gallery
Sep 2–Nov 15, 2025 (UTC+12)
Auckland
Threads of Time: Travel, Trade & Textiles is a jewel-box display in the historic Mackelvie Gallery that offers a survey of European art from the 15th to the 18th centuries. Presenting for the first time new acquisitions and recent donations to our Auckland audiences, this exhibition also showcases beloved paintings and sculptures from the permanent collection, some of which have not been on display for several years. Five thematically-driven, Salon-style hangs underline the sumptuous materiality of fabrics, both as depicted subjects in art and as physical supports that sometimes peek through a painting’s layers of pigment and varnish.
Products of technology and trade, fabrics are cultural artefacts. They are also markers of social status and expressions of individual taste and sentiment. As such, their depiction in paintings, sculpture and works on paper is the outcome of precise negotiations between artist and client. Interpreting works from the permanent collection through this social and historical lens, Threads of Time explores how fabrics can offer insight into the interwoven threads of fashion, art and identity in the politics and cultures of the past.
Gothic Returns: Fuseli to Fomison | Auckland Art Gallery
Sep 2–Nov 16, 2025 (UTC+12)
Auckland
Gothic Returns: Fuseli to Fomison explores the persistent appeal of ‘the gothic’, a broad term that embraces some of the most darkly charismatic imagery ever produced.
Incorporating all things unsettling, mysterious, sombre and downright scary, this genre has its origins in the late 18th-century British Romantic movement. First defined by the medievalising novels of Horace Walpole (1717–1797) and the disturbingly sensual paintings of Swiss artist Henry Fuseli (1741–1825), it has since proven almost virus-like in its capacity to adapt and thrive across the centuries. Whatever outward form it assumes, the gothic has also shown itself remarkably true to its essential character: ominous moods, unsettling themes and a melancholy engagement with the past. Sometimes dormant but never fully extinct, the gothic impulse seems ready to resurface at uneasy junctures in history.
In Aotearoa New Zealand, it manifested in the early 1990s in cinema, art and fiction at a time of reckoning with the nation’s colonial record. The moment was subsequently hailed by cultural commentators as the birth of the ‘New Zealand Gothic’, but – as many have noted – precursors lurk everywhere in New Zealand art. Few collections are as well placed as Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki’s to engage with the gothic in its early and later manifestations.
Drawing upon iconic works from across the collection by the genre’s founders as well as by their contemporary Antipodean counterparts, Gothic Returns: Fuseli to Fomison unites old with new, playfully inviting viewers to enter the ever-enticing dark side of the imagination.

Hyaluron Pen Certification
Do you want to be the first in your business, salon or spa to offer this amazing service to your clients? Get ready to train on this course and take your career to the next level!
What Is A Hyaluron Pen?
Simply put, The Pen is the future. It allows anyone with the proper training to provide their clients with a Hyaluronic Acid Treatment. This can be done on lips, deep lines and provides a revitalization treatment for the face. HA forms a super hydrating net over the skin and delivers water to parched skin over time. Hyaluronic Acid is known to have an amazing water-binding capacity, making it ideal for skin hydration and that means the skin is continuously hydrated, plump and healthy.
HA TREATMENTS ARE NOW A REALITY THANKS TO ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY. USING HYALURONIC ACID BASED PRODUCTS, OUR CUTTING EDGE TECHNIQUE CAN TRANSFORM YOUR SERVICES YOU OFFER TO YOUR CLIENTS.
What is involved in the procedure?
The procedure is quite simple and the HA used is safe as the human body produces the exact same acid, it is pretty impossible that anyone would get any sort of allergic reaction or complication from the HA itself. The more Hyaluronic Acid there is inside the Epidermis layer of the skin, the more water is retained keeping its moisture and making the appearance of the skin more youthful.
Hyaluron Pen … applies HA.
How much can you charge for the procedure?
Based on your state, area of location and techniques you do. Minimum price to charge as a New Technician is $300 and as you become skilled in your craft you can charge up to $500 for 1 ml of Hyaluronic Acid. This is great for 30 minutes of work! This is a great return on investment. You can get back what you have invested in your training quickly!
