Tips, Tricks and Angles | 57 Lyndale Ave, Ottawa, ON, Canada
Feb 28, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
Ottawa
2025 Acting Goals and Audition Prep Join us for an exciting in-person event where we will help you kickstart your acting career! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced actor, this event is designed to help you set your acting goals for 2025 and provide valuable tips for audition preparation. Located at 57 Lyndale Ave, Ottawa, ON, Canada, this event is the perfect opportunity to network with fellow actors and learn from industry professionals. Don't miss out on this chance to take your acting skills to the next level! Workshop Breakdown: Acting Dynamics and Real-World Engagement A fun acting challenge with a cooking theme but a different spin: ** Mystery Ingredient Drama ** - Participants are given a **mystery ingredient** (e.g., garlic, hot sauce, or marshmallows). - They must improvise a **dramatic** or **comedic** scene where the ingredient plays a pivotal role (e.g., a chef’s secret weapon, a cursed spice, a forbidden family recipe). - The catch? They have **30 seconds** to plan and then must perform the scene live, fully committing to the stakes. This challenge encourages **quick thinking, character work, and creative storytelling** while keeping the cooking show energy. Would you like a version with a different theme? Here’s a fresh take on a similar concept: ### ** Breaking News: The Hollywood Scandal Debate ** - Participants play **news anchors, reporters, and industry insiders** covering a major **fictional** Hollywood scandal (e.g., a high-profile actor caught in controversy, a film studio accused of AI-generated scripts, a blockbuster flop). Divide them into two teams: **one defending the studio, the other exposing the scandal.** They must improvise live **news segments, panel discussions, and breaking reports**, incorporating **fact-checking, biased reporting, and spin tactics.** Encourage the use of **drama, humor, and satire**—think *SNL Weekend Update* meets *CNN Crossfire*. This challenge builds **improvisation skills, critical thinking, and media literacy** while keeping things entertaining. Want it more debate-focused or more comedic?3. Branding Character Branding & Marketing Workshop: Own Your On-Screen Identity Step 1: Define Your Type & Brand Participants reflect on the roles they frequently book or want to book (e.g., gritty detective, quirky best friend, romantic lead ). Discuss the differences between typecasting and branding—how knowing your brand gives you power in the industry. Write down three adjectives that describe their most castable roles (e.g., “charming, mischievous, unpredictable”). Step 2: Character Research & Development Choose a character within their brand and research similar roles played by established actors. Study headshots, reels, and social media of actors with a similar type to understand how they market themselves. Step 3: Character Interviews & Scene Work Pair up, with one participant playing their character and the other interviewing them as a casting director, producer, or journalist. The goal is to explore their backstory, motivations, and personality in an authentic, compelling way. After the interview, develop a short scene that showcases the character’s essence and strengths. Step 4: Branding Strategy & Marketing Application Headshots & Social Media: Discuss what makes an effective headshot that reflects their brand. What kind of roles do their current photos suggest? Reels & Self-Tapes: How can they showcase their brand in their demo reel and auditions? Social Media Presence: What should they post to reinforce their brand? (e.g., content ideas for Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn). Pitch Yourself: Each actor writes and delivers a one-sentence branding statement (e.g., “I’m the go-to actor for rebellious underdogs with a heart of gold”). Final Challenge: Sell Yourself in 30 Seconds Each participant delivers a short pitch about who they are, their brand, and why casting directors should remember them. The group gives constructive feedback on clarity, confidence, and memorability. This workshop blends character development with real-world branding, ensuring actors walk away with a stronger sense of identity and practical marketing tools. Would you like to incorporate any industry-specific exercises, like audition techniques or networking strategies? 4. Cold Read Scripts: Participants engage in cold reading exercises using scripts from various genres. Emphasis on quick analysis, understanding character motivations, and delivering authentic performances on the spot. 6. Acting Goals 2025 - Game Plan: Facilitate a discussion on individual acting goals for the year 2025. Encourage participants to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. Share strategies for achieving these goals, including training, auditions, networking, and skill development. Workshop Objectives: Develop improvisation and collaboration skills. Enhance research and script analysis abilities. Encourage authentic interactions in scripted scenarios. Explore the nuances of non-verbal communication. Foster goal-setting and strategic planning for actors. Facilitator's Note: Create a supportive environment for open discussion and feedback. Encourage participants to step out of their comfort zones and embrace the challenges presented in each exercise. Provide resources for research and guide participants in understanding the nuances of the chosen professions and scenarios. This workshop aims to blend the art of acting with real-world engagement, fostering a well-rounded approach to performance and character development.
