Emotions and Senses in 18th century Visual Art and Culture | Hogarth's House
Jun 6, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
London
Welcome to
Emotions and Senses in 18th century Visual Art and Culture
! Join us at
Hogarth's House
for a fascinating exploration of how emotions and senses were portrayed in art during the 18th century. Recent research has highlighted the nuanced understanding of emotional expression through its historical and contextual relevance. The eighteenth century has been identified by historical scholar such as Retford, Dixon, and Boddice as a critical era of change within emotional landscapes. Art theorists, importantly, have identified the nuanced role art plays in symbolising in an historical era and arousing emotions in its viewers.

Forgotten Movements : PsychArt Conference | Garrod Building
Jun 13, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
London
Our minds often prioritize forgetting over understanding. Memories slip in and out of our grasp—emerging in dreams and nightmares, appearing at the most inconvenient moments, and disappearing just when we need them most
Why some memories linger while others fade remains one of life’s great mysteries. What the conscious mind forgets, how the body keeps the score.
On June 13th, PsychArt invites you to a day of talks, workshops, and discussions centred around the theme 'Forgotten Movements.' We will explore how the body and movement are depicted in art, the mind-body dilemma in modern medicine, and how technological progress and the dominance of rational thinking have distanced us from our physical selves.
As patients and practioners, what are we forgetting about our own bodies? About the bits of us that don’t fit onto standardised forms or fall outside the frame of a Zoom call. From marginalized therapeutic approaches to neglected histories that have shaped care, join us to bring these forgotten movements in the light, and foster a movement towards reconnection. Towards remembering.

The Dry Season: Melissa Febos & Jeremy Atherton Lin - Gower St | Waterstones
Jun 24, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
London
Join us for an evening with Melissa Febos, discussing her experience finding pleasure in a year without sex, with Jeremy Atherton Lin.
In the wake of a disastrous two-year relationship, Melissa Febos decided to take a break - for three months she would abstain from dating, relationships and sex. Her friends were amused. Did she really think three months was a long time? But to Melissa, it was. Ever since her teens, she had been in one relationship or another. It was time to focus on herself and examine the lifelong patterns that had got her to this point. When those three months ended, she decided to extend her celibate period, fearing that she had not yet gained the clarity she was searching for. She knew she was taking on a challenge but had no idea that this year would become the most fulfilling and sensual of her life.
No longer defined by her romantic pursuits, Melissa learned to relish the delights of solitude, the thrill of living on her own terms, the pleasures unmediated by lovers and the freedom to pursue her ideals without distraction or guilt. She began to see her life and her self-worth in a radical new way. Her year of divestment transformed her relationships with friends and peers, her work, creativity - and most of all her relationship to herself.
The Dry Season
is a memoir of Melissa's year of celibacy, and a profound exploration of independence, sexuality and deep self-knowledge.
'So full of wisdom and pleasure that you don't want it to end.' - Maggie Nelson
'Brilliant and powerful.' - Elizabeth Gilbert
Don't forget to include a copy of
The Dry Season
