Join us for our monthly in-person Chi Hack Night! We will be at a new location: i.c.stars ,a non-profit tech training & placement program! Chi Hack Night is a group of thousands of designers, academic researchers, data journalists, activists, policy wonks, web developers and curious citizens who want to make our city more just, equitable, transparent and delightful to live in through data, design and technology. Presentation - Chicago Neighborhood Project For 20 weeks, from November 2023 through April 2024, UChicago researchers collected more than 5,500 responses from residents, identifying more than 100 unique neighborhoods across the city. Hear from the researchers that led this project and some of their findings about how we name different parts of our City. What happens at a hack night? Every week, we have a 45 minute presentation by a government agency, non-profit, company or group who've made use of open data or built a civic technology application. The goal of these presentations is to showcase the different uses and opportunities, as well as challenges and successes in the civic technology movement. After the presentation, the format of the event is similar to that of a hackathon where breakout groups self-organize to work on civic apps, discuss policies and their implications, learn technical skills and network with a welcoming and diverse community at the intersection of technology and government. But I'm not a techie! That's ok! We encourage non-technical folks to pair up and learn from our community's designers and developers. We've seen time and time again, the best civic projects come from teams with a diverse background. Remember, there's much more to making a great app than just coding. Come join Alan V for an informative walking tour of downtown Chicago! This 2.5 hour tour will cover the history of downtown Chicago from its founding to the present, the city's architecture, as well as modern marvels. Highlights include: Navy Pier Chicago Riverwalk Millennium Park Printer's Row ...and more! Following the tour, we'll have a happy hour along the Chicago River at Lizzie McNeill's. Every individual donation to the guide of at least $10 in-person or $5 upon registration will get attendees entered into a raffle for a free drink ! About Alan V: Alan is an Illinois native and a former Chicago Public Schools teacher who holds a bachelor of arts degree in history and masters degree in education. Pole Night at Provocateur is a live pole performance event. Each month has a diferent theme. This month, join us for Mythical night! We encourage audience members to dress as their favorite mythical creatures! Doors open at 8PM, an hour prior to the show to give you the opportunity to enjoy delicious cocktails in the gorgeous space that is Provocateur. The performance starts at 9PM. At this time the Host will take you on a seductive journey as you witness several breathtaking pole performances. There will be a 15-20 min intermission mid show to allow you to freshen up your cocktails. The tickets and seating options are as follow: $30 for standing room $40 for table seating: Each table accommodates 4 people but tickets are sold separately. If you are coming with a group you can sit at the same table as long as everyone in the group purchased a $40 table seating ticket. $230 for VIP booth seating: This is a package deal that seats up to 6 people. If you have never been to a pole dance performance before, don't fear! Our Host will guide you through your experience and will explain how consent and tipping works. Tipping the dancers is encouraged. We will be providing the service of exchanging cash or Venmo for single dollars at the venue. Provocateur has ADA approved bathrooms.
