About Olena Chrona "I am Olena Chorna, a Canadian artist with roots in Dnipro City, Ukraine. In my childhood, I found joy in observing nature and painting en plein air. After being accepted into the Academy of Fine Arts, I studied art history, sculpture, drawing, and painting in various media and techniques for four years, graduating with Honours in Fine Art. I began my teaching journey at the age of 16, shortly after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts. I was hired as an art instructor to teach art classes at a summer camp. Since then, I’ve been passionate about teaching both children and adults, guiding them on their artistic paths. Upon graduating from the Art Academy, I pursued architecture at Prydniprovska State Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture , all while continuing my passion for teaching art classes and doing my own original artwork in painting, drawing, and sculpture. My extensive travels, both within the former Soviet Union and abroad, fueled my artistic inspiration. I also learned one-stroke painting, a phenomenon of Ukrainian ornamental folk art called Petrykivka, which has its roots in the village of Petrykivka in the Dnipro Region of Ukraine. I studied under its masters and fell in love with its centuries-old charm. Recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, Petrykivka decorative painting is more than just art; it represents a cultural legacy of Ukraine. My mission is not only to provide education in Fine Art but also to introduce Petrykivka decorative painting to the Waterloo Region community and beyond, helping people discover the uniqueness of this one-stroke Ukrainian folk art. Embracing the rich artistic heritage of Petrykivka, I am excited to showcase my original artwork and offer art classes and workshops for all ages on this subject for any occasion. This ornamental style can be applied to canvas, paper, ceramics, or glass items such as bowls, vases, and cups, as well as wooden objects , Christmas ornaments and much more. Each piece serves as a testament to the beauty and uniqueness of this traditional Ukrainian decorative art." Information Source: Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery | eventbrite

Items are foodsafe, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe. During the workshop, please photograph your artwork so you can identify it when it comes out of the kiln. Refunds & Date changes: 14 days notice required for a date change or refund (minus Eventbrite booking fee). 50% refund with less than 14 days notice (minus Eventbrite booking fee). Support workers and personal care attendants are free: If you have special needs or medical requirements and would like to come to claytime with a personal care attendant, please book online and then email Sabrina at programs@theclayandglass.ca to add a +1 to your booking free of charge. Personal care attendants are welcome to make a clay project during the program. Image credit: Caleb Williams What to expect: Pottery is about the process, not just the product. The focus of our beginner clay workshops is to have fun trying something new and enjoy making something by hand. Embrace imperfection - your piece will be unique to you! Be flexible and keep an open mind. It's a good idea to come to the workshop with a photo from pinterest or instagram to spark your creativity. Keep in mind that the projects you see online are done by professional potters with years of experience who may use different techniques and tools (many clay artists kiln fire in between steps, or leave their piece to air-dry for a day and come back to it when it's leather hard). Your instructor can help take your idea and turn it into something achievable within the workshop time frame. Take a photo of your piece during the workshop so you can identify it. Pieces change shape, change colour, and might look very similar to things made by other people. You are responsible for picking up your finished artwork. Firing takes approximately 3 weeks. We send out emails when items are ready for pick up. If you do not receive an email (they do sometimes get lost or go to spam!) you are responsible for emailing a photo of your piece and the date of your workshop to programs@theclayandglass.ca. Items not picked up may be disposed of due to limited shelf space. Oops - it fell apart! Working with clay takes practice and patience. Every time you work with clay it's a chance to learn something new. If your piece breaks because of a construction issue, we hope that you will come back and try again. Please listen to your instructor's tips for scratching & attaching, not overworking the clay, and making things the correct thickness (no thinner than a pencil, no thicker than 2 pencils). Our studio team handles every item with care, but we cannot guarantee that items will be free of issues when fired. Policies here . Upcoming Projects Use these images as inspiration and add your own flair to make your one-of-a-kind artwork unique! Information Source: Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery | eventbrite

Cultural Experiences
Join us for our Strong Yoga Practice with a focus on the Alignment of our Knees and Spine Workshop! When: Sunday, June 1st from 3:30pm - 5:30pm Where: MOVATI Waterloo, SKY Studio About the Workshop: Purpose: To revisit commonly practiced asanas like Warriors (I, II, III), Half Moon, Downward Facing Dog, Mountain, Triangle, Chair, Tree, camel and more. We'll break the asanas down so that you can start to see and feel the shape differently in your body. Why do this? To magnify patterns by diving into the mechanics, discovering your personal patterns, while building strength, and deepening your own practice. You will leave feeling like you worked your whole body with special attention to the alignment of our knees and spine. I am a certified Iyengar yoga teacher, so I will guide you on how to use the props to deepen your experience. Overview: This is a complete yoga practice with a savasana at the end. We will do some partner work with props so that we can learn from each other's patterns and bring new insight into our own practice. We will not be doing standing asanas for the whole two hours but those are the main focus. Looking forward to this exploratory practice with you. About the Instructor Whitney Lord: Whitney Lord, M.S., is a former D1 athlete enamored with the strength and stability yoga has brought to her life. Her teaching is inspired by years of athletic activity and is informed by the patterns of injuries experienced while dancing, running, and swimming. And, most importantly, as a mom, she is all about finding physical and life balance! Her biggest life lesson was as a NCAA Division I Athlete. Whitney's life revolved around her running, so in fourth year when she found herself no longer able to run she turned to yoga. Yoga was the only place she felt safe, and removed from her competitive lifestyle. After two years of rehabilitation she finally understood that running was no longer an option. Rehabilitation hours turned into yoga hours, and teaching became a weekly occurrence. Fast forward to today, after living in the USA for 10 years, Whitney returned to her home city, Waterloo, ON, Canada. After teaching a variety of yoga styles for over a decade she returned to Iyengar Yoga teacher training at Yoga Centre Toronto under Senior teacher Marlene Mawhinney in 2015. Whitney has completed a three year teacher training school at Yoga Centre Toronto and successfully passed her International Assessment in November 2018. Whitney continues to study and practice with Senior teachers, and holds a Level 1 certification. Price: $50.00 plus HST - non members must pay drop in guest fee plus workshop fee. It is danced to a huge range of music including funk, pop, RnB, hip hop, swing, blues, rock... and more! Do I need a partner? No partners necessary! WCS is a partner dance but we will be switching partners during the class so you'll get a chance to dance with everyone. (If you are not comfortable with switching partners and want to dance with just the person you came with, that's totally fine too! :) In fact, as long as you are comfortable with it, we highly encourage dancing with lots of different people because it helps you develop your own abilities to lead/follow. What do I need to bring? Indoor shoes! (Not outdoor shoes will be allowed in the studio.) Dance shoes, clean sneakers, and sock feet are fine. Water bottle. Mask (optional but HIGHLY recommended). Deodorant/change of shirt. (It might get warm!) No alcohol. But I have two left feet/can't dance/suck at dancing! No such thing. ;) You just haven't found the right teacher/dance style yet.
