We’ll cover on-road, on-your-bike practice sessions, working in small groups with our certified instructors to improve your bike handling skills, emergency maneuvers, and ability to confidently and safely bike on all types of streets and pathways. Participants who participate in classes will receive a free pair of bike lights! This class will be split into two parts, as follows: Part 1, On-the-bike drills (2 Hours) : This first section includes a group orientation then an on-bike session in a controlled environment like a parking lot or playground blacktop, practicing bike handling and hazard avoidance skills in a relaxed setting.Part 2, On-road group practice (2 Hours): For this second section instructors will take participants out on the road around nearby neighborhoods, streets, and paths, practicing our skills drills in a real world environment.Attending one of our “Day 1” Urban Cycling 101: Classroom Workshops or equivalent LAB Smart Cycling course is a prerequisite for the Urban Cycling 101: Day 2 Road Class. If this class is full, you can be added to the wait list or be notified about future sessions as they are added. Please bring: A functional bicycle.Helmet is strongly recommended, and required for students under 18.Snacks, water, and sunscreen.Ages 15 and up only. Any minors joining us for this class must be accompanied by an adult who is also participating in the class, and both must be registered individually. Students under 18 must wear a helmet. This is not a learn-to-ride class, and all participants are expected to be comfortable with the basics of balancing, pedaling, and steering. — This class is made possible by funding from the Alameda County Transportation Commission.

The Oakland Civic Orchestra presents Season FInale, “Legends” featuring Alex Strachan in the exciting world premiere of Legend: Concerto for Horn and Orchestra by composer-in-residence Nikolaus Umar Durr. Bookended by Jean Sibelius’ legendary Symphony No. 5 and the Nocturne from his King Christian Suite No 2, the program also features the colorful Scarlet Sculptures by emerging Australian composer, Naomi Dodd.
The concert is on Sunday, April 27 at 4:00 pm, at Valley Center for the Arts, 3500 Mountain Blvd. in Oakland. Tickets go on sale March 6 on Eventbrite and advanced purchase is strongly advised.
