The Most Perilous Comedie of Elizabeth I - at Lauriston Castle | Lauriston Castle
Jul 1, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Edinburgh
Elizabethan theatre is flourishing. But will a brand-new Tudor musical romp, in which Good Queen Bess takes to the stage herself, be the making of this heroine or spell the beginning of her downfall? The stage is set for regicidal rivalries, devious dramatics, and plotting playwrights. Beset by misunderstandings and a script that…let’s just say…needs some work, this production promises to be largely historical, always hysterical. As the old saying goes…thy show must go-eth on! ★★★★★ – “So entertaining…laugh-out-loud funny” ★★★★★ – “Riotously fun. Hugely enjoyable” ★★★★★ – “The ultimate British theatrical experience” – Hastings Independent Press ★★★★★ – “Great fun for the whole family…my kids are still talking about it!” On Tuesday 1st July, join us at Lauriston Castle. Bring your own cushions, and camping-chairs and join us on our 10th anniversary open-air adventure. Come prepared for the weather - the performance will continue come rain come shine! This performance is an outdoor performance. We recommend that you bring blankets/chairs/cushions etc. to sit on. Come prepared for the weather with warm coats and waterproofs etc, as the performance will continue come rain come shine! We ask that you don’t bring umbrellas as these can obscure the view for other people in the audience. 7pm start time, picnics welcome from 6pm. The performance will last approximately 100 minutes (+ a 20 minute interval). We recommend booking tickets for this performance online in advance. Drop Spindle for Beginners | The Out of the Blue Drill Hall
Jul 2, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Edinburgh
A fun workshop to introduce you to the art of spinning your own yarn using a drop spindle, a great activity for fans of crocheting, knitting, weaving or tapestry.
What is a drop spindle?
A drop spindle is a tool for spinning fibres into lengths of yarn or threads. As the name suggests, it drops down and hangs from your fibres whilst its spinning.
This 1.5 hour workshop will show you the basics of spinning wool fibres into your own yarn, which you will then be able to take home. You will have use of a drop spindle in the workshops, and a choice of many colours of fibre to use interchangeably.
There will also be starter kits available for purchase if you would like to continue at home!
You will learn:
How to hold and use a drop spindle
How to handle wool tops
How to change colours
How to ply your yarn
A great way for any yarn enthusiast to spend a few hours discussing yarn origins and future projects whilst learning a new addicitive skill.
Please consider the following:
This workshop requires fine motor skills in the hands and fingers of both hands, and requires full movement of both arms. You can of course take breaks when needed, but you will need to be able to work with your arms elevated for extended periods. You will be seated forward in your seat for the majority of the session, again of course you may take breaks!
I look forward to spinning with you!

Join Dr Joanna Härmä at Blackwell’s of Edinburgh, as she joins us on Wednesday 2nd July, at 7pm, to speak about her second book, How the New Education Establishment Betrayed the World’s Poorest Children: Broken Promises, Broken Schools, published by Bloomsbury Academic in February 2025. The book takes the reader through the author’s journey, both practical and intellectual, spanning two decades. It brings a critical lens to widely-held beliefs in the power of education and the need to deliver this quickly and at scale, outlining all but insurmountable obstacles to realising local, national and global ambitions. Highly contextualised direct experience over 20 years from one part of Uttar Pradesh, India, is blended with historical sources and primary and secondary data from a broad range of African countries. The book considers public, private and blended approaches to education delivery. Joanna is a writer and researcher who has conducted extensive research on low-fee private schooling targeting lower income communities in India, Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Mozambique. This research was carried out while working on a range of donor and foundation-funded projects and she has also worked in other African and Asian countries on issues other than private schooling. While living and working in Nigeria, she designed and oversaw the only comprehensive census of private schools in Lagos, amongst other research into private schooling in the country, including Kwara State and the federal capital, Abuja. She has also worked on other types of projects in Liberia, Malawi and Bangladesh. Her first book, Low-fee Private Schooling and Poverty in Developing Countries, was published in 2021 by Bloomsbury Academic. - Doors: 6.30pm, event starts: 7pm, please arrive early to secure a good seat. The Dark Side of Edinburgh | Edinburgh Old Town
Jul 2, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Edinburgh
If you want a mundane, humdrum history walk, this is not the tour for you. But... if you want to learn what the tourist industry leaves out? The hidden, gruesome crimes and punishments? The long forgotten twisted, sadistic characters? The thousands of lives painfully lost in the cruel grip of Edinburgh's past? Maybe you are brave enough to learn the truth.
Hear of witches, cannibals, murders, thieves, body snatchers, blood thirsty mobs and the devil in disguise. We will explore haunted graveyards, hide up darkened closes, spit on the Heart of Midlothian and bravely face where Edinburgh believed the world ended. You even get a chance to knock on Bloody Mackenzie's door, if you dare!
Madam McKinnon or William Burke will guide you through our streets under cover of darkness. They've been dead for almost 200 years and do not take kindly to modern nonsense. They will however, crack your sides with laughter over their dry Scottish wit. And their tales will chill you to your core.
Our tours are historically accurate, with a history this dark there's no need to fabricate!
Our stops
The Grassmarket: where you will discover the castles curse and the nasty secrets etched into the cobble stone square.
Greyfriars Kirkyard: one of the most haunted graveyards in the world. It's not just about a loyal dog. As the twilight hits the ghouls come out to play!
The Royal Mile: with such attractions as St Giles Cathedral, the Tron Kirk and the Old Tolbooth Prison. Not just a tourist hot-spot but a street that once ran dark with blood.

You’re In the Right Place
You feel deeply. You think deeply. But somewhere along the way, you were told that your depth was “too much.” That your softness wasn’t strong enough. That your emotions needed to be controlled and managed, instead of understood and celebrated.
You’ve been aching to make some changes, but you’re worried everything might go wrong — and that failure would prove you’ve never been good enough anyway.
I want to invite you to stop waiting for permission, and give yourself approval to step into a new life that you’ll love.
This group is for women who are tired of:
Second guessing every decision
Feeling stuck in the same repetitive cycles
Staying small to make everyone else happy
Meet Your Guide
Hi, I’m Natalie — Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Life Coach.
Why is the group free?
Because I believe in this work. I know what it’s like to feel weird, different, and misunderstood. There was a time when I was stuck in self-doubt, staying small, and waiting for someone to tell me I was good enough.
You don’t have to do this alone. And you don’t have to wait until you “have it all figured out” to get support and connection.
We’ve created an LGBTQ friendly space where anyone who identifies as a woman is welcome so we can all stop playing nice and start living full out.
This is your invitation to step into something new. To give yourself the gift of community, clarity, and connection to the possibilities in your life.
What to Expect
We’ll meet on Zoom for 60 minutes.
You can participate as much or as little as you’d like. I coach people who volunteer for 15 to 20 minutes each. If no one volunteers to be coached, I’ll give some tips on being a Wild Hearted Woman.
Your video will not be recorded, and audio replays are available exclusively to clients in a private coaching space for those receiving ongoing support.
This Space is For You If…
✔ You have times of feeling confused or overwhelmed by your emotions.
✔ You’ve spent your life making sure everyone else is happy, but don’t know how to give yourself the same care.
✔ You feel frozen by fear of failure, rejection, or abandonment.
✔ You crave a life that feels softer, slower, and more aligned — but don’t know where to start.
✔ You’re making big changes in your life (leaving a relationship, stepping into something new, healing from the past) and want support from women who truly see you.
Ready to Join Us?
You’re not too much. You’re not behind. You’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
And you are SO ready for this.

Sip and Paint | 378 Leith Walk
Jul 3, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Edinburgh
Grab a paintbrush in one hand and a glass of wine in the other—it’s time to get creative! Our Paint & Sip evening is all about fun, laughter, and letting your artistic side shine (even if you can barely draw a stick figure). With guidance from our friendly instructor, you’ll turn a blank canvas into your own masterpiece—whether it’s a stunning sunset, a quirky abstract, or a “modern art” piece that’s open to interpretation.
No experience? No problem. We believe creativity flows best when you're relaxed, sipping something delicious, and surrounded by great company. So bring your friends, grab a drink, and let’s make some art!
