Open-Air Laldie Ceilidh with Da Hooley Ceilidh Band | Saughton Park Courtyard, beside Four Square Park Café
Jul 19, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Edinburgh
This is energetic traditional Scottish ceilidh dancing on a Saturday afternoon. A Laldie Ceilidh is intense, relentless and sweaty traditional dance fun. We keep it fresh bringing a variety of top bands to our events. This time the music and calling comes from
Da Hooley Ceilidh Band
.
Our July and August events are probably the only open-air public ceilidhs in Edinburgh this year.
This is suitable for all fun-loving people, including first-timers. Beginners are invited to come early for a half-hour class in ceilidh basics at 3.30pm (free with event ticket).
All ages and all abilities are welcome. You don't need to do the dances "right", you just have to be ready to give it a try (and ready for a laugh). We demonstrate, practice and call dances to suit the overall crowd on the day - and there are always experienced dancers to follow.
Come along in a group, come along with a partner, come along on your own - there are lots of opportunities for mixing and dancing with other people. That's part of ceilidh culture.
Doors open 3.15pm.
Beginners class 3.30 - 4pm.
Ceilidh 4 - 7pm
Practical Stuff
The Courtyard is a lovely big space for dancing. It was refurbished pre-covid with a new bitumen macadam surface - it is like a newly laid road. We have danced here over the past two years. The surface is impressively forgiving for dancing. Training shoes are recommended.
There will be a supply of drinking water. Please bring your own water bottle to cut down on waste. No glass, please and please take any waste home with you.
There are public toilets at the venue. Seating in the courtyard is limited and unreserved.
We are right beside Four Square Park Cafe for refreshments.
About the weather (and refunds).
There is always a chance we might need to call off the ceilidh for bad weather. Here's how we work it. On the morning of the event we will check the forecasts and make a decision about going ahead. If it looks like it will be too dreich/ inclement we will call it off and announce the cancellation. If we cancel the event we will make 100% ticket refunds, including ticketing fees. If the forecast in the morning is reasonable then we will go ahead as planned.
Except for event cancellation, tickets are non-refundable.
