Summer Pottery Club for age 5-9yrs | Creative Bloc
Jul 22, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Glasgow
Every Tuesday throughout the school summer holiday we are running two pottery clubs for kids. An exciting opportunity at Creative Bloc for your child to explore and develop their own creative ideas through the medium of clay.
Ages 5-9yrs in the morning: 10am -12pm
Ages 10-14yrs in the afternoon: 1-3pm
You can sign up to as many individual sessions as you like and for block bookings of 4 or more, please email us for a discounted rate at hello@creativeblocglasgow.com.
Students will enjoy learning new skills as they discover techniques to hand build wonderful clay projects. In the studio, we will use slab, coil and pinch pot sculpting methods to create unique ceramic masterpieces. These may be practical sculptures for the home (vases, bowls, cups etc) or creative sculptural artworks (inspired by the environment, self portraits, animals, nature & space). There will also be the opportunity to try throwing pots on a potters wheel. Students will be encouraged to explore and realise their own ideas in clay and be involved in all of the ceramic processes.
No previous experience is required and all materials and firing costs are included in the course. Our recommended age for this class is 5-9yrs. This is a guide only and we offer flexibility to attend whichever session a child feels more comfortable in.
After the class (or classes), any finished work will be fired in the studio and ready to collect by the end of the summer holidays/approx 2 weeks after the last session.

How Speed Dating Works in Glasgow
When you arrive at the Glasgow venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date.
You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't.
At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day.
Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches.
Post Event
No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. You have all day to tick as many people as you like from the night before. We guarantee you will find someone you will want to see again, otherwise we will give you your next

Telling and Recording Stories of Struggle with GHSA | Glasgow Zine Library
Jul 23, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Glasgow
Please note: this event will be held in person.
Calling trade unionists and tenant union members with a story to tell!
How can the working class record, document and share the lessons of its own struggles? As well as understanding the importance of telling our own histories, we need access to the skills and equipment that enables us to pass knowledge on effectively.
The Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive aims to support both trade unionists and tenant union members to do this through building an archive of housing movements, purchasing equipment for the movement and training people to take this process through themselves.
The last few years has witnessed a resurgence of joint action between housing and labour movements, part of a long tradition in Glasgow – from campaigns around the Rent Act in the 1970s to the leading role of building workers in stopping the sell-off of council housing in the 1950s, and the famous coalitions of the 1915 rent strikes.
This workshop will involve basic oral history training, including the theory, ethics and practicalities of oral history interviews. This workshop is aimed at trade unionists and tenant union members with an interest in oral history skills who are able to commit to gathering oral testimonies of housing and community struggles.
About the facilitator:
The Glasgow Housing Struggle Archive (GHSA) is an evolving project to document, share and learn from our city’s long history of housing movements. We believe that social change happens most effectively when the working class gets to know – and tell – its own histories from below, and a core part of the GHSA’s project is to activate historical material through popular political education, discussions, workshops, walking tours, film screenings, exhibitions and publishing. We want to show how over a 150 years of rent strikes, demonstrations, occupations and campaigning people have fought and win in the city, and can continue to shape it today. This programme is organised by GHSA collective members Joey Simons, Kirsteen Paton, Kirsten Lloyd and Kate Wilson.
