FMA EP L&L - Sacramento River East Levee Improvement, Contract 4 | ODIN Office Conference Room
Jun 18, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Roseville
Please Note:
This event has been rescheduled from May 21st to June 18th 2025.
Join us as we go discuss the challenges, innovations, and construction overview of USACE Sacramento District’s SREL Contract 4. The project constructed 2.4 miles of levee improvements along the Sacramento River East Levee (SREL) within the City of Sacramento to address under- and through-seepage concerns. SREL Contract 4 was the last segment of the SREL to be reinforced and extends from Old Sacramento to Cliff’s Marina on the East side of the Sacramento River. SREL comprises critical infrastructure for protecting thousands of residents in South Sacramento, Elk Grove, and surrounding cities. The reinforcement of these levees upgraded the protective capabilities of the SREL to a 1-in-500-year storm. The project scope required degrading five discontinuous segments of the existing levee, constructing various types of seepage cutoff walls, and reconstructing the levee with competent low permeability soil. Multiple construction methods were designed and specified to address the variety of subsurface conditions known to exist in this historical levee system. The jet grout segments vary from 70 to 140 feet deep and are 8 feet wide and total approximately 500 linear feet. The DMM segments are 45 to 80 feet deep and three feet wide and total approximately 1,800 linear feet. The contract also included 770 feet of seepage or seepage and stability berm construction and 1,600 linear feet of levee raise.
About our Speaker:
Tino Maestas, P.E., serves as the Technical Director and Corporate Quality Assurance Officer for Odin. Mr. Maestas has 26 years of experience in planning, design and construction management of heavy civil, environmental, and geotechnical construction projects. His areas of significant experience and expertise include geotechnical and hydraulic design and construction of groundwater seepage barriers, in-situ stabilization using vertical auger and bucket mixing methods, and construction/rehabilitation of levees and dams. Mr. Maestas focuses on alternative contract delivery methods providing pre-construction services to Owners and design engineers with progressing regulatory reviewed design packages from 30% through construction plans and specifications.

Art Auction and Artist Talk | In collaboration with Lee Mathews | Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf
Jun 19, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Double Bay
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2025, Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf partnered with artists Mel Booth, Bridgit Stehli, and Australian designer Lee Mathews to host a community appliqué workshop, culminating in a collaborative artwork. This meaningful piece will be auctioned to raise funds for The Women’s Housing Company, an organisation supporting single women and women with children experiencing housing insecurity across New South Wales. Female-led practices have historically been marginalised, and this reality inspired Mary Cassatt’s three-panel mural, Modern Woman (1893), which challenged traditional views of women as passive and compliant. The (artwork) collaborative work celebrates the strength and ingenuity of contemporary women and is an opportunity to honour women from the past, and the role they played in the passing of knowledge across multiple generations. The artwork is currently on exhibition, at Woollahra Gallery before being auctioned on Thursday 19th June, with funds going towards The Women’s Housing Company. Mel and Bridgit’s artistic practices explore the evolving perception of women, centring on the female gaze throughout their works. Exhibition partner Lee Mathews is known for her commitment to social welfare initiatives and her dedication to high-quality natural textiles and sustainable practices. --- When | Thursday 19 June, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM Where |Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf Cost | Free Capacity | 100 Transport and parking|The Gallery can be reached via public transport (buses 324, 325 or 326, or walk from Edgecliff Station or Double Bay Wharf). FORAGE & NIBBLE near Ullswater (Cumbria) | Basecamp North Lakes - Farmshop & Kitchen
Jun 19, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Penrith
This course is designed to get you as involved as possible - this includes identifying, picking and tasting a range of wild species that will be found on the day. There will also be samples of wild food and drink for everyone to get stuck into and a pre-made wild snack!
The focus with all of our workshops is on the 4 'F's of Foraging:
Fungi, Fruit, Flowers and Foliage
. We aim for an array of these elements on every session we run (weather and season permitting!)
Event sold out or can't make this date? Head to
www.foragebox.co.uk/workshops
or view our
Eventbrite profile
to browse all available sessions.
What To Expect
Our 'Forage & Nibble' workshops are exactly that: you will spend the day learning how to forage with your tutor and then be treated to a 'wild snack' to put it all into context! These have become our most popular events and are available at numerous locations around the country.
DURATION: 3 hours
(approx 2.5 hours of foraging and 30 mins preparing and eating your wild snack)
We like to keep some elements a surprise for the day, but here is what you can expect from your foraging workshop:
a short introduction regarding the safety and format of the day
discussions around foraging tips, safety, ethics, etiquette, sustainability and the law
a circular walking route taking in different growing environments around the site.
Expect a route of around 2-3km predominantly on footpaths
a closer look at edible wild species and any poisonous lookalikes by a professional forager
a chance to slow the pace of modern life down, meet new people and immerse yourself in a soul-nourishing activity, reconnecting with nature and discovering new flavours
small tasters of wild food - this may even include freshly-picked items straight from the wild and a wild snack. Your wild snack might be something we find on the day freshly cooked in the woods, a hunk of homemade sourdough with some wild pickles and preserves, or even a big slice of cake (our tutors are decent cooks too so it could be something even better!)
our workshops are run in a welcoming and informal fashion, where attendee questions and contributions are encouraged
after the event, you will be sent a follow-up email containing a list of everything we found on the day. Please do not expect photos or descriptions in this email - it is purely a list for reference purposes, and we find it helps people do further research in their own time.
Please note: as with most of our events, this is an educational experience and not a 'basket-filling' session
.
At the end of the session, there may be a small selection of
our wild products
and workshop vouchers available to purchase (card and cash accepted). This is a recent element of our events after enough attendees made enquiries about it - there is no pressure to buy anything having already bought tickets but sometimes people want a souvenir to take with them! Please speak to your tutor about this at the end.
Who Is This Workshop For?
These events are perfect for everyone - families, bushcrafters and dog-walkers alike! Nobody is made to feel out of their depth or silly for not knowing what certain things are, so these events suit absolute novices to more experienced hobby foragers alike.
We strongly believe that
foraging is for everyone
, with all demographics welcome, regardless of age, ability, gender or ethnicity.
Please read our FAQs further down the page to find out about dogs, children and mobility.

Please note that our workshops may not be suitable for vegans and coeliacs unless you inform us of these dietary requirements in advance - we may use butter or bread, for example. Bookings made within 48 hours of the event start time may not allow for your tutor to cater for specific dietary requirements - please get in touch if this is a concern.
Attendees are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to the destination.
EXACT MEETING POINT:
The meeting point will be on the grass verge between the stream and the car park.

PARKING:
Parking is available at this venue. Please be considerate when leaving your car and do not block gates or access for other road users, ensuring you park as near to the adjacent car as possible to allow others to park in the same area.
TOILETS:
Toilets are available at this location.
Please arrive well in time for the start of the workshop, allowing extra time for the distance from your parked car to the meeting point and any toilet trips - we don't tend to wait for late-comers!
Your foraging guide for the day should arrive on site at least an hour before the start and will start gathering the group together approximately 15 minutes before the official start time. If you cannot find your tutor around that time, there is a chance you are looking in the wrong place, so please check the event information for the exact location (not the postcode)
Signage can sometimes be limited, so keep an eye out for anyone with a foraging basket!
Minimum number of guests for this event to go ahead: 8 people
PLEASE NOTE:
We do not provide guests with a contact telephone number for your tutor. This is for privacy puropses but also because it is impractical to do so - your tutor simply wouldn't be able to take a call whilst with a group. If you need to get in contact, please use the email function via eventbrite or
our website

Beverley Park
Beverley Folk Festival Presents: Ruth Notman
Plus support from Iona Wild
RUTH NOTMAN
Folk singer/songwriter, Ruth Notman, first came to prominence in 2006 when, aged just seventeen, she was a finalist in the BBC Young Folk Awards. In 2007, the Nottingham 18-year-old released a debut album Threads which, as BBC Radio 3’s Verity Sharp declared, “caused quite a stir” making the folk scene sit up and take notice of this young performer’s incredible voice. Threads went on to receive plaudits in The Independent, The Guardian and Mojo and in 2009, Notman released her second album The Life of Lilly to similar acclaim before taking a musical sabbatical to go to university.
Ruth returned to the UK folk scene in style in 2019, collaborating with Sam Kelly and Damien O’Kane on the album ‘Changeable Heart’ (Pure Records), reintroducing audiences to her knock out voice and unique brand of acoustic folk which inspired a generation of young singers and musicians.
As ever there will be a warm welcome from the St Nicholas' Church team, and their famous reasonably priced bar will be serving craft beer, good wine and a selection of non-alcoholic drinks.
