Intermediate / Advanced MTB Ride @ Puslinch | Puslinch Tract Conservation Area
May 22, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED

Location:

Parking Map:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/qSC5fP3Hn8uVSWKd9
Trailforks:
https://www.trailforks.com/region/puslinch-tract--twin-ponds/
Carpool Time & Meeting Place:
For anyone who needs a ride, people will be meeting in the Freewheel back parking lot and driving out at 5:30pm. If you have a ride and are meeting us at Puslinch, we are aiming to ride for 6:15pm. The parking lot at Ppuslinch can fill up so give yourself time if driving.
Puslinch Trails:
The trails are a good mix of fast and flowy with some technical areas and lots of things to play on. If you find areas of the Dundas Valley technical, please think about bringing knee pads. They are never a bad idea.
Details:
Freewheel's Thursday MTB group rides are for intermediate to advanced riders (not ideal for beginners) looking to explore and enjoy our local trails with other mountain bikers. We prefer to keep these rides fun and social and encourage everyone to get to know each other. This is not a race so riding alone defeats the purpose of a group ride.
Each ride will be split into groups depending on the number of riders who show up that week. Each group will have an official Freewheel leader and sweep so no one will be dropped or left alone at the back. We will encourage one another, celebrate the wins, and help each other out when needed.
Through the season, ride locations will change from week to week so that we can explore all the amazing trail networks in the area. All information on When & Where to meet (or cancelation due to weather) will be communicated to attendees via email.
The weather does not always play nice so we will keep an eye on it each week and provide updates as best we can. In a perfect season, we do not have to cancel any rides but it may happen from time to time. We also encourage responsible trail usage so we will not host group rides when the trails are too muddy. In some cases, the weather may cause us to change locations last minute so that we can look for dry trails. We will let you know of changes as early as possible.
Sign up / in
Please register well in advance of each ride. Signing up in the parking lot holds things up as we wait. This year we are asking everyone to check into each ride by having their ticket ready to be scanned. Look for the registration table/person at each ride.
As a participant, you are expected to:
Be ready to roll at 6:00 sharp (6:30 for destination rides).
Arrive early enough for your pre-ride preparations. It is not cool to hold up the whole group while you scramble to get ready.
Wear a cycling-specific helmet less than 5 years old
Dress appropriately for the activity and weather conditions.
Have an appropriate trail bike in good working order. No department store bikes (for your own safety). Our service technicians will not be available to do last-minute fixes on your bike.
Bring water and nutrition. Staying hydrated is important and snacks will keep your energy up. Bonking is not fun.
Have a good level of fitness. This is a physical activity that will include hills and an intermediate/advanced pace. It is not ideal for people looking to get back into fitness starting from scratch. (
ie; not Day 1 off the couch
)
Be self-sufficient. Mechanical issues happen and while our guides are happy to help as best they can, each rider should carry a mini-pump, spare tube, and a quick link suited for their own bike.
Bug spray and/or sunblock is also recommended.
Be considerate and supportive of others. Encourage each other as we push the edges of our comfort zones and try new things.
Remember that this is not a race! It's a social ride with like-minded riders.
We look forward to having you join us on Thursdays to ride bikes! Mountain bikes that is :)

Alison Bechdel at The Brattle Theatre | The Brattle Theatre
May 22, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Cambridge
Harvard Book Store welcomes beloved
New York Times
bestselling author
Alison Bechdel
—author of
Fun Home
, which was a
Time
magazine #1 Book of the Year graphic memoir and was adapted into a Tony Award–winning musical—to celebrate the release of her new comic novel
Spent
, a laugh-out-loud, brilliant, and passionately political work of autofiction.
Ticketing
Tickets include admission for one and one hardcover copy of
Spent
pre-signed by the author.
About
Spent
In Alison Bechdel’s hilariously skewering and gloriously cast new comic novel confection, a cartoonist named Alison Bechdel, running a pygmy goat sanctuary in Vermont, is existentially irked by a climate-challenged world and a citizenry on the brink of civil war. She wonders: Can she pull humanity out of its death spiral by writing a scathingly self-critical memoir about her own greed and privilege?
Meanwhile, Alison’s first graphic memoir about growing up with her father, a taxidermist who specialized in replicas of Victorian animal displays, has been adapted into a highly successful TV series. It’s a phenomenon that makes Alison, formerly on the cultural margins, the envy of her friend group (recognizable as characters, now middle-aged and living communally in Vermont, from Bechdel’s beloved comic strip
Dykes to Watch Out For
).
As the TV show
Death and Taxidermy
racks up Emmy after Emmy—and when Alison’s Pauline Bunyanesque partner Holly posts an instructional wood-chopping video that goes viral—Alison’s own envy spirals. Why couldn’t
she
be the writer for a critically lauded and wildly popular reality TV show…like
Queer Eye
...showing people how to free themselves from consumer capitalism and live a more ethical life?!!
Spent
’s rollicking and masterful denouement—making the case for seizing what’s true about life in the world at this moment, before it’s too late—once again proves that “nobody does it better” (
New York Times Book Review
) than the real Alison Bechdel.
Bio
Alison Bechdel’s
cult following for her early comic strip

CRLS Sisters on the Runway Annual Fashion Show | The Foundry
May 22, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Cambridge
Sisters on the Runway
is a student-led organization at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. The club serves as a safe, empowering space where young people can share their stories and feel genuinely heard. Through workshops and programming, we engage in meaningful conversations and take action around critical issues such as healthy relationships, misogyny, and domestic violence. Our mission is to raise both awareness and funds in the ongoing fight for justice and support for survivors of domestic violence.
To advance this mission, we host an annual fashion show—a signature event that brings our community together. The evening includes a silent auction featuring prizes generously donated by local Cambridge businesses, as well as the fashion show itself, produced and modeled by students. All proceeds from ticket and auction sales go directly to Transition House, a local women’s shelter, to provide essential resources and support to survivors in crisis.

Matt Walters AKA Reductio performs at St John the Evangelist's, Cambridge | St John the Evangelist's Church, Cambridge
May 23, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Cambridge
Once the preserve of religious music in cathedrals and churches, the organ has a traditional and classical heritage. However, Matt Walters is keen to bring organ music to a new young audience. He recently performed a concert of organ music at Wells Cathedral in aid of the restoration of the organ. However, all is not quite as it seems as Matt, Aka Reductio, has been shaking up the world of classical organ music with his classical-dance music remixes and has become a bit of Tik-Tok sensation.
His performance will include some classical works, some of his own organ music, some audience participation, and some more modern music such as Coldplay, ABBA and Zimmer reiagined on the organ. The performance will also feature a segment of electronic music combined with the organ live.

Ward Hayden & The Outliers-"Little By Little" Release w/Brady Dallas Jones | Lizard Lounge
May 23, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Cambridge
$25 adv/$32 door
Doors at 7
This album has been two years in the making and was born with the idea of balancing the scale. Following one of Massachusetts most notable Country artists directing their audience NOT to listen to Bruce Springsteen....Ward Hayden & the Outliers decided the best way to offset that negativity was to do something positive and delve into Springsteen’s epic catalog. Taking that journey with all its nostalgia, appreciation, and creativity is unequivocally positive. This album plays like a thank you note to The Boss, one that will resonate with Springsteen and Outliers fans alike.
This collection of songs was chosen from the soundtrack to many people's lives who grew up in the 70s, 80s, & 90s. These are the songs that played while you hung out in your friend's kitchen, watched TV in your living room, drove your car home from school, or when you partied on the weekends. These songs earned their place in our lives, they've been there for us, they've been along for the ride.
Ward Hayden & the Outliers NEW album "Little by Little" has taken the songwriting of Bruce Springsteen, channeled it through their country music filled hearts and minds, resulting in something extraordinary and unique. It's The Boss done Outliers-style. It's the music that's been our crutch to lean on, our shoulder to cry on, and the words that we sing out with joy at the top of our lungs. It's the music that taught us to love music, the music that makes us want to keep making more music, and it's meant to be shared. May 22nd & 23rd come celebrate the album release of “Little By Little” by Ward Hayden & The Outliers.
Ward Hayden & The Outliers
"Brady Dallas Jones blends an introspective and musing lyrical style with the dramatic folk rock sound he was raised on to create a Boston-brewed mixture capable of bringing an audience to their knees, whether it be in sadness or ecstasy." - Arlo Matthews

Baking Across America
From the deserts of the Southwest to the shining Atlantic Coast, the USA is as sweet as it gets. In this

You’ll be hitting the pavement in vintage style as you journey with Dylan through the culture capitals of America to savor the very best bakes the nation has to offer. His retro recipes span the decades from the 1900s to the 2000s and feature famous (and forgotten) desserts from every state.

in the sultry heat of jazzy New Orleans, and
Date Cream
scooped up poolside in Palm Springs.
Baking Across America

ABOUT
PROBLEMATIC SUMMER ROMANCE
What is wrong
meets
what feels right
in this romance set in Italy by the
New York Times
bestselling author of
Deep End.
Maya Killgore is twenty-three and still in the process of figuring out her life.
Conor Harkness is thirty-eight, and Maya cannot stop thinking about him.
It’s such a cliché, it almost makes her heart implode: older man and younger woman; successful biotech guy and struggling grad student; brother’s best friend and the girl he never even knew existed. As Conor loves to remind her, the power dynamic is too imbalanced. Any relationship between them would be problematic in too many ways to count, and Maya should just get over him. After all, he has made it clear that he wants her gone from his life.
But not everything is as it seems—and clichés sometimes become plot twists.
When Maya’s brother decides to get married in Taormina, she and Conor end up stuck together in a romantic Sicilian villa for over a week. There, on the beautiful Ionian coast, between ancient ruins, delicious foods, and natural caves, Maya realizes that Conor might be hiding something from her. And as the destination wedding begins to erupt out of control, she decides that a summer fling might be just what she needs—even if it’s a problematic one.

Our Unborn World: Global Political Thought in the Twentieth Century
These lecture series will offer reflections on the enterprise of global political thought. Do the different frameworks we bring to thinking about global political theory – national, comparative, interconnected, decolonial – adequately describe the nature of our predicament? In engaging with this question, the lecture hopes to shed light on the nature of the legitimation crisis that different parts of the world are experiencing. ~ Pratab Bhanu Mehta ~

The Divorce of Nations - João Vale de Almeida | Trinity College
May 28, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Cambridge
Join the Centre for Geopolitics and João Vale de Almeida to discuss his new book 'The Divorce of Nations'.
Today we are witnessing one of the most dangerous geopolitical situations of modern times, heralded by loud populist and nationalist voices, and steeped in uncertainty. But how did the nations of the world come to find themselves in such a predicament? Is the international liberal order condemned?
Drawing from decades of experience in Brussels, Washington, New York and London, one of the world’s foremost diplomats lifts the veil on modern foreign affairs and enables us to trace how countries have been sleepwalking towards the ‘Divorce of Nations’, and the steps we can take to fix it. Having met the most consequential global leaders, Ambassador Vale de Almeida’s insightful account features personal observances of figures such as Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Tony Blair, Boris Johnson, Angela Merkel, Nicolas Sarkozy, Emmanuel Macron, Hu Jintao and Donald Trump. He also recalls the numerous times he met Vladimir Putin and the early warning signs and grievances the Russian leader aired in the run up to his incursions into Georgia and Crimea, which ultimately were the precursors to the full-fledged invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Other key moments in his compelling narrative relate to the global response to the Great Financial Crisis, how the world shifted in the aftermath of 9/11, the opening up of China and how the world reacted to the Covid pandemic. The book also includes a personal and colourful account of the first 1,000 days of Brexit – the ultimate act of separation so far. ‘Who better to guide us through the chaotic world of the last 25 years than one who had a ringside seat for much that went on, and who writes about it with such insight and skill? This is a must read book.’ Sir Anthony Seldon, No.1 Sunday Times bestselling author.
