Echoes of the City incorporates a wide range of ethnic instruments from different regions, including percussion instruments from Africa and South America, in addition to the dynamic versatility of the Chinese pipa and the rustic charm of the Japanese shakuhachi. Through the harmonious integration of sounds from various regions, this concert showcases the unique culture and historical background of Hong Kong. The entire programme is composed and arranged by members of the Run-around Ensemble, guiding the audience to settle gradually and find peace of mind, with the plucking strings of the pipa initiating this musical journey. The repertoire features creative and evocative sonic combinations, such as steel tongue drum music by the Ensemble’s music director Margie Tong and alternate tuning for the pipa by co-music director Mavis Lam. In other words, Echoes of the City provides a platform where performers share their stage experiences and life journeys, intermingling musical exploration of sound with personal emotions. Japanese singer-songwriter Fujii Kaze will be coming to Hong Kong on 4 December 2024 for a concert! Famous Japanese singer-songwriter Fujii Kaze came to Hong Kong for the first time in July last year for 2 concerts at the University Hall of the Hong Kong Baptist University, and the response was overwhelming and the tickets were hard to come by. Fujii Kaze made his Asian tour debut last year, and the Best of Fujii Kaze 2020-2024 ASIA TOUR is going to be even bigger, with the stage expanded to a stadium size. The ASIA TOUR is scheduled to depart from Singapore on 26th October, followed by eight more cities including Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Taipei, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Manila and Seoul. A Symphony of Lights is a laser light and music show in Hong Kong. It is completed by a total of 47 skyscrapers and landmark buildings located on both sides of Victoria Harbour on both sides of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Peninsula. It is a large-scale light and music show in the world. Every night at 8 o'clock, you can see the urban buildings on both sides of the Victoria Harbour turn into a stage with sound and light intertwined in the neon lights and music, showing the splendid night of Hong Kong. The magical lights emitted by each building illuminate the sky over the Victoria Harbour, supplemented by music and narration, dreamy, gorgeous and impactful, allowing you to have a deeper understanding of the beauty of Hong Kong. The sound and light show starts at 8 o'clock every night and lasts about 13 minutes. During these 13 minutes, you can watch the performance for free on both sides of Victoria Harbour. The best viewing spots are from the Avenue of Stars to the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront outside the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the waterfront promenade of the Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai or the sightseeing ferry from Victoria Harbour. In Tsim Sha Tsui Waterfront Garden and the Golden Bauhinia Square waterfront promenade, you can hear the music and narration of The Symphony of Lights. Preservation and Perpetuation of the Classics 2024 – Concerti InformationWith 80 members, the Hong Kong Young Chinese Orchestra is one of the few full-scale youth Chinese orchestras in Hong Kong. It provides young people with professional training and performance opportunities in ensemble playing. The Orchestra has been invited to participate in major celebration events and international exchanges and won warm acclaim from the live audiences. Continuing with the theme of Preservation and Perpetuation of the Classics, the Orchestra will be selecting outstanding members to perform as soloists in concertos written by maestros. A convergence of creative power to forge a new realm in music! This year marks the 25th edition of the Music from the Heart project organized by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. Every year, it calls for new musical compositions from rookie composers, and performs and discusses them via an open platform. The series has therefore become an ongoing input of innovative spirit and vitality into Chinese music. This year, Music from the Heart will continue to be open to composers in the Greater Bay area for participation and exchange. The audience will also be able to vote for their favourite pieces on the spot and witness the birth of bright new stars!
