Little Shop Children's Book Festival Keynote Event with Dave Eggers | Holy Trinity Parish Episcopal Church
May 3, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Decatur
Dave Eggers, author of the Newbery award winning book, The Eyes and the Impossible, joins the Little Shop of Stories Children's Book Festival with the keynote event on Saturday, May 3rd at 7pm at Holy Trinity Parish in Decatur, GA. A Q and A and signing will follow.
This event is free to attend but registration is required. A purchase of The Eyes and the Impossible (paperback, hardcover, or deluxe edition) from Little Shop of Stories is required to enter the signing line. Books can be pre-ordered at the time of registration or purchased at the event. Pre-ordered books will be available for pick up at the event at Will Call.
About The Eyes and the Impossible:
A wild, lyrical, hilarious and beautiful story of a wild dog living and surviving in an urban park
Johannes, a free dog, lives in a park hemmed in on three sides by dense human neighborhoods, and on one side by the ocean. His job is to be the Eyes--to see everything that happens within the park and report to the park's elders, three ancient bison who ensure the Equilibrium. His friends--a stalwart seagull, a mordant raccoon, a one-eyed squirrel, and a pelican who can read--work with him as the Assistant Eyes, observing the humans and other animals who share the park and making sure everything is in balance. But changes are afoot. More humans, including Trouble Travelers, arrive in the park. A new building, containing mysterious and hypnotic rectangles, goes up. And then there are the goats--an actual boatload of goats--who appear, along with a shocking revelation that changes Johannes' view of the world. Readers will thrill to Johannes's inimitable and wonderful voice, and will gorge on this unforgettable story of friendship, beauty, liberation, and running very, very fast.
About the author:
Dave Eggers is the author of many books, including The Eyes and the Impossible, The Every, The Circle, The Monk of Mokha, and the National Book Award finalist A Hologram for the King, as well as numerous books for young readers, including Her Right Foot, Faraway Things, and The Lifters. He is the founder of the independent publishing company McSweeney's and the college-access nonprofit ScholarMatch, and the co-founder of 826 Valencia, a youth writing center that has inspired dozens of other centers worldwide. He is the winner of the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award for Education and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize.

Midwest Music Expo - DECATUR, IL | Millikin University
May 3, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
Decatur
2019 marked the first conference, founded by Martin Atkins and operated by Millikin University’s music business students. Since then, Atkins has continued to curate the conference and guides students to bring it to life. In May 2020, MmX pivoted online and launched the first-ever scratch-and-sniff virtual conference. It continued throughout that year with weekly online sessions, a full virtual conference in 2021, and returned to in-person programming in May 2022. Since then, the conference has been held in both Decatur and Chicago, and has only continued to grow.
Now in its 6th year and 8th iteration, MmX is a music industry conference with a deep focus on the midwest music scene and the communities that shape it. It draws equally on local leaders and international experts to deliver compelling panels, thoughtful discussions, inspiring keynotes, and new connections.
Rooted in a punk-rock, DIY, hard work, no-nonsense, get-things-done mentality, this year's conference will spark creativity and connection throughout the Midwest region.
This year's Decatur conference features:

About the Book:
Amelia Applebaum isn’t
in love
with Walter Holland. He just happens to be her favorite moderately famous, chaotically bisexual YouTuber. Who she just happened to invite to prom. (But it’s fine. No, for real. If you delete the post, it didn’t happen.)
Okay, maybe her friends are right: She’s
slightly
parasocially infatuated. But Amelia just knows sparks would fly—if only she could connect with Walter for real.
If only he would host a meet and greet.
If only it were just a short road trip away.
And if only Amelia could talk her best friends into making it the perfect last hurrah before graduation—even her newly single, always-cynical, guitar-toting best friend Natalie.
One thing’s for sure: All roads lead to butterflies.
But what if Amelia’s butterflies aren’t for Walter at all?

Not all is right in the mortal realm! Just like Percy Jackson, son of a Greek god, you will attend Camp Half-Blood, a refuge for the children of the Greek gods! You will compete in games like capture the flag, make crafts like a shield of the gods, tell and re-tell the ancient myths, all to better prepare you for a life of epic quests and challenges!
All camps are daycamps and will be held Monday through Friday
. The camp day starts at 9 a.m. and runs to 4 p.m. promptly. There is no aftercare, early drop-off, or partial week option. The cost of each week of camp is $400.
Weather permitting, campers walk to Ebster Pool on Thursday mornings and typically spend lunchtime at a nearby park.
Campers bring their own lunch, snacks, water bottles, and sunscreen every day.
Little Shop camps are a wonderful place for play, imagination, and friendship. All activities are geared for group rather than individual attention. Please note that our staff is not trained to work with children with special needs, nor do we have the staffing to meet the needs of children who require intensive individual assistance. If you have concerns, please communicate with us as soon as possible so that we can begin a discussion. If we determine we are unable to meet your child's needs, for the safety of your child, other campers, and camp staff we will ask that your child be withdrawn from camp.
