And then, suddenly, his life disintegrates. His father, Zippy, turns state evidence, implicating his old bosses to the FBI. Now the family—Curtis included—must enter the witness protection program if they want to survive. This means Curtis must give up the very thing he loves most: sharing his extraordinary musical talents with the world. When Zippy’s bosses prove too elusive for law enforcement to convict them, Curtis, Zippy, and Larissa realize that their only chance of survival is to take on the cartel themselves. They must create new identities and draw on their unique talents, including Curtis’s musical ability, to go after the people who want them dead. But will it be enough to keep Curtis and his family alive? A propulsive and moving story about sacrifice, loyalty, and the indomitable human spirit, The Dark Maestro is Slocumb at the height of his powers. The Author Brendan Nicholaus Slocumb was raised in Fayetteville, NC, and holds a degree in music education (with concentrations in violin and viola) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Journey to Magical Lands!Join us in-store for an evening of mysterious theme parks, otherworldly meals, and ancient spells. Books of Wonder is delighted to be hosting a YA double-launch for The Whisperwood Legacyby ROSELLE LIM, and Celestial Banquetby JO SCHULTE! If you love the darkness of Grimm's fairy tales, mouthwatering food, or wonderful storytelling, this is an event that you just can't afford to miss. About the book: The Whisperwood Legacy Welcome to Whisperwood, a sprawling theme park nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, where thrilling rides and picture-perfect scenery bring cult-classic fairy tales to life. Or at least they did until eighteen months ago, when the family matriarch, Virginia Strauss, suddenly shut Whisperwood’s gates and the beloved park was left to wither away along with the family’s dwindling fortune. For seventeen-year-old Frankie Strauss, Whisperwood's closure has been a blessing in disguise. After seeing three generations of wealth’s corrupting influence, she is more than ready to shed the Strauss-family's gilded handcuffs. But when Virginia goes missing, Frankie realizes that her family might be guilty of something much worse than mere dysfunction. With the help of the mysterious and handsome groundskeeper, Jem, Frankie sifts through a web of near truths and outright lies, uncovering a reality where nothing is as it seems and fairy tales aren’t just real—they’re deadly. About the book: Celestial Banquet Once every generation, the Major Gods hold a Celestial Banquet, inviting chefs from all over the Continent to prepare mouthwatering fantastical feasts. The winner is awarded the fabled Peaches of Immortality, along with a lifetime of fame and fortune. The losers perish per the whims of the fickle gods. Hot-headed noodle chef Cai enters the competition with dreams of owning her own restaurant and supporting her impoverished Peninsula town. Along with the drunken Minor God Kama, her childhood crush-turned-friend Bo, and dreamy noble Seon, Cai must now compete against the Continent’s finest culinary masters in trials that range from hunting and serving up mystical sea serpents to preparing a magical omurice from the eggs of the legendary Jian bird. Battling impossible odds and inconvenient feelings for both Bo and Seon, Cai is determined to prepare a feast fit for the gods—even if she loses her life. Set in a spectacular world inspired by Chinese and Southeast Asian folklore, Celestial Banquet is an ode to food, home, and family, wrapped in an epic and thrilling adventure. Headline act: Vladimir McTavish Host: Graham Stewart Opening act: Gita Blaze Middle acts: TBA **PLEASE READ CAREFULLY** · Tickets can be refunded or exchanged no less than 24 hours before the show. · Line-ups can be subject to change at short notice. · The show is in three 30 minute parts separated by two intervals. Doors open at 7pm, one hour before the start time of 8pm. Please arrive before the show starts but not before 7pm. Attendees who arrive late will not be granted admission or a refund. · This is NOT a standing event. All audience members must be seated while the performance is underway, unless ordering at the bar or using the toilets. When ordering at the bar, please whisper. · Entrance and exit is via the side door only; please wait outside at the door for ticket check and to be seated by the doorman. · You will probably have to share a table. You may not be able to sit together if the remaining chairs available are spread out. If you are particular about seating we recommend arriving as early as possible. · Seats in the front half of the room must be filled before seating in the back half is allocated. · Seating in the alcove at the back is reserved for the comedians and their guests only. · Don’t talk or heckle during the performances. This rule is NOT optional. It is very distracting for both the performer and other audience members. Some performers (usually the host) might talk to the audience, but otherwise please let the comedians do the talking. Heckling does not ‘help the show’. Think of it like cinema rules: laughter, cheers, applause are all great, but talking or yelling out is not. And another cinema rule… · Please put your phone on silent. Photos are fine but please no video or flash photography. · If your chair is not facing the stage when you come in, please rotate it when the show starts. · These shows are for people aged 18 and over. Due to licencing 17 year olds can attend accompanied by a parent or guardian, but we cannot allow entry to those aged 16 and under, accompanied or not. You may be asked to show ID if you do not look of age. · Comedy Dundee does not necessarily agree or disagree with the opinions and viewpoints expressed by the comedians. Acts are booked based on their ability to make people laugh, beyond that we respect freedom of expression. If you disagree or are offended by what you hear, you are free to express this by not laughing, by leaving, or by respectfully raising your objections with the act after the show or via social media. You may not interrupt an on-going performance. · Audience members who repeatedly break these rules will be asked to leave. Information Source: Comedy Dundee | eventbrite
