Combining clown, standup, sketch and improvisation, his live performances have taken him to stages across the region, including Pasadena’s Civic Center Auditorium where he was featured on NBC’s America’s Got Talent . Under the tutelage and direction of John Gilkey (Cirque Du Soleil), Kevin performed in the critically-acclaimed improvisational clown ensemble The Murge, which LA Weekly dubbed, “Spontaneous theater of the absurd…LA’s craziest improv show.” Kevin would go on to train in the Idiot Workshop pedagogy and teach for the workshop for over a decade, cultivating his voice as a director and fostering the burgeoning clown community in Los Angeles. In 2023, Kevin directed Claire Woolner’s solo show “A Retrospection” which was called “captivating throughout” by The New York Times and went on to win Best of Hollywood Fringe. Unlocking Secrets in Nerve Repair: From Neuronal Signaling to Glial Modulation Abstract : Valeria Cavalli and her team study the mechanisms by which sensory neurons, with cell bodies in dorsal root ganglia, respond to injury and regenerate their axons. They have identified multiple neuronal pathways that enhance axon growth capacity. Additionally, their research has demonstrated that satellite glial cells (SGCs), which envelop the sensory neuron soma, play a role in nerve repair. The pathways identified in rodent SGCs have been shown to be conserved in human SGCs. Cavalli's team is extending these studies to explore the contribution of SGCs to sensory neuron function and dysfunction in disease states, including autism spectrum disorders, chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, and aging. Bio: Valeria Cavalli is the Robert E. and Louise F. Dunn Professor of Biomedical Research and Professor of Neuroscience at Washington University in St Louis. Her laboratory aims to unravel the molecular and cellular events responsible for repairing damaged axons and identify therapeutic targets to improve neuronal function in the injured nervous system. Dr. Cavalli earned her PhD from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, where she studied the signaling mechanisms regulating membrane trafficking in cells. She continued with postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Diego, where she studied how information about injury is conveyed from the lesion site in the axon back to the soma. She received a post-doctoral fellowship from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation to continue her studies on injury signaling, which was influential in how she pursued her career. She was seized by the puzzle of nerve injury and repair and has been tackling this question since joining Washington University This annual lecture honours Dr. Albert Aguayo , OC, FRCP, Professor Emeritus founder and former Director of the Centre for the Research in Neuroscience at McGill University. Cette conférence se tiendra dans le cadre de l’École d'été 2025 - Droit de la santé et des services sociaux, organisée par la professeure Mélanie Bourassa Forcier, experte en droit et politiques de la santé à l’École nationale d’administration publique (ENAP). Résumé Depuis l’entrée en vigueur de l’assurance maladie en 1970, le RSSS québécois est étudié par des commissions, disséqué dans des rapports et bouleversé par des réformes. Les auteurs du livre L'indomptable mammouth : de l'assurance maladie à Santé Québec : un demi-siècle de réformes en santé explorent les multiples tentatives de réforme du mastodonte qu'est devenu le système de santé québécois. Le lancement de ce livre constitue une belle occasion d’échanger sur ces différentes réformes selon diverses perspectives. Conférenciers Pascal Mailhot a gravité dans les plus hautes sphères décisionnelles comme conseiller politique au cabinet du premier ministre du Québec successivement pour Lucien Bouchard, Bernard Landry et François Legault. Il a participé activement à la fondation de la Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), rédigeant toutes les plateformes du parti jusqu’à la victoire électorale en 2018. Membre de l’équipe de transition puis directeur de la planification stratégique, il a pris part aux grandes décisions prises au cours du premier mandat du gouvernement Legault. Au fil du temps, Pascal a également occupé différents postes de cadre supérieur dans le réseau de la santé et des services sociaux, notamment à l’Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont à titre de porte-parole de l’établissement. Son expérience s’applique à pratiquement toutes les facettes du métier de communicateur, dont les relations publiques, la rédaction de discours, la conception de documents publics, l’animation de conférences ou de formations de porte-parole. The event will feature the following panelists: Brooke Jamison, Chief, Americas Liaison Office, IFAD Brooke Jamison serves as Chief of the Americas Liaison Office at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), where she leads engagement and partnerships across government, civil society, philanthropy, the private sector, and multilateral institutions in the U.S. and Canada. Prior to joining IFAD in 2024, she was Associate Administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service, overseeing the USDA’s Foreign Service and global programs. There, she helped launch $2.3 billion in new initiatives to enhance export markets and food aid delivery. With over two decades of experience in agriculture and international development policy—including 24 years in Congress and the non-profit and private sectors—Jamison brings deep expertise in multilateral collaboration and food systems. She holds a BA in International Relations from Tufts University and an MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Dr. Michael Ngadi, James McGill Professor, McGill University Dr. Ngadi is a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Bioengineering. He earned his doctoral degree from Dalhousie University (formerly TUNS) in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He previously worked with Laval University, Quebec and University of Georgia, Georgia before joining McGill University in 1998. He is a professional member of the Canadian Society for Bioengineering (CSBE), American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) and Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). Dr. Ngadi’s research interest is to understand how product and process inter-relate and translate to optimized food quality and safety. The emphasis of his work is on mathematical modelling and optimization, heat and mass transfer phenomena, food properties, hyperspectral imaging, deep-fat frying and cooking processes, bulk packaging and non-thermal technologies including pulsed electric fields (PEF), ultraviolet light (UV), and ozone. Dr. Ngadi also works on biofuels and bioproducts. The major thrust of his research in this regard is on enhanced biochemical conversion of waste biomass into biofuels as well developing innovation strategies for conversion of biomass into bioproducts. 7T MRI for Multiple Sclerosis: Insights into Pathology and Future Directions Abstract: Ultra-high field, 7 Tesla (7T) MRI has provided a powerful in vivo tool for understanding the pathophysiology of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the clinical impact of pathologic changes. This tool holds additional promise as a method for improve diagnostics, treatment efficacy monitoring, and as an outcome measure for clinical trials. In this talk, we will accomplish the following objectives: 1. To review contributions of 7T MRI to our understanding of the impact of cortical and deep gray matter and chronic active white matter lesions 2. To review 7T MRI methods for measuring blood brain barrier breakdown and meningeal/lymphatic pathology 3. To discuss further work necessary to move forward with clinical translation of 7T MRI for multiple sclerosis Bio: Dr. Harrison is a Professor of Neurology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Harrison directs an active research program focused on the development and validation of new techniques for imaging of the central nervous system for application to multiple sclerosis research and clinical trials. Dr. Harrison's research program is currently focused on utilization of novel MRI techniques, including high-field, 7-tesla MRI for visualization of cortical pathology, neurodegeneration, and meningeal inflammation in multiple sclerosis. His lab also works on utilization of novel imaging techniques of the retina and visual pathways in MS and on machine learning based approaches to image analysis and outcomes prediction. Dr. Harrison's research program is supported by multiple NIH, Department of Defense, National MS Society, and industry grants. Dr. Harrison is also an active investigator in the Maryland Center for MS clinical trials program. Dr. Harrison received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Highest Honors in Biology from Rutgers University after which he received a Medical Doctorate from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He went on to train in neurology in the residency program at Columbia University Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in neuroimmunology and neuroinfectious disease at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He was on faculty at Johns Hopkins from 2010 until 2015, after which he took a position at the University of Maryland. Expanding the Animation Film - Cross-Cultural Exchange in Montréal and Canada by Vinicius Sanchez Come join us for a compelling lecture on animation practices in Canada by interdisciplinary artist and Fulbright Research Fellow in Animation, Vinicius de Aguiar Sanchez. Since the early 20th century, Montréal has been at the center of a historical exchange between international animation filmmakers and regional cultures. Through archives and film analysis, Sanchez examines the underlying dialogues between local and immigrant perspectives that led to the development of an international animation language in Canada. As Animation continues to evolve, the research considers major questions of cultural exchanges today with a historical grounding of the expanding field. Expanding the Animation Film - Cross-Cultural Exchange in Montréal and Canada was conducted across moving Image archives and collections in Canada, including the National Film Board (ONF/NFB), the Cinémathèque Québécoise and the Visual Collections Repository(VCR) at Concordia University. En trois heures, elle permet de comprendre l’ensemble des sujets environnementaux et leurs interrelations.Elle s’appuie sur la littérature scientifique, en particulier sur les travaux du Stockholm Resilience Center ainsi que sur des articles publiés dans les revue Science et Nature. L’atelier repose sur l’intelligence collective et propose une approche ludique et conviviale pour aborder des concepts sérieux. Pendant cet atelier de 3h, en équipe de 5-7 vous aurez à : Retrouver les liens de causes à effet entre les cartes pour comprendre ce que sont les frontières planétaires, leurs causes, et leurs conséquences.
