Bristol
Bristol Parent Carer Forum hosts coffee mornings from schools for parent carers of children and young adults that have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
There is no need to book but if you can, that is helpful. Please come along for a chat with our volunteers and other families who “get it”. We are happy to talk through any problems or issues you are facing over a nice cup of tea (or coffee!) and you can find out more information on what support is available locally for your child or a child you care for.
If you need additional support to access this coffee morning such as support with English or other adjustments, please let us know.
An important role of the Parent Carer Forum is to hear about the experiences of parent carers in Bristol. We would like to hear from you about your experiences with SEND services so that we can be sure that your voice is heard and that we can shape the future of SEND services together.

Essential Composting - one day course | Hartcliffe City Farm
Jun 8, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Building on the success of our popular compost tours, we are now offering an in-depth one day course at our
charity
's composting space at
Hartcliffe City Farm
.
Healthy soil supports plant growth, retains water efficiently, and provides essential nutrients, making it the foundation of both productive gardens and resilient ecosystems - and essential for addressing climate change and food security.
One of the most effective ways to improve soil health is through composting. At Heart of BS13, our charity are turning local food waste into nutritious compost, which we use to improve the soil at our sustainable flower farm. We collect food waste from local houses, businesses, and even schools!
On our Essential Composting course, we will guide you through the process of turning food waste into compost, helping you understand the science behind decomposition, the key elements of an effective compost system, and practical techniques for maintaining a healthy compost pile.
The course will include:
- exploring the benefits of composting to wildlife, soil and climate health
- understanding different approaches and systems for composting
- building a wood chip bay from scratch
- loading our compost bays, including the Ridan food waste composter, and exploring a variety of different materials that can be composted
- turning and 'doctoring' a green waste pile - compost is never ‘wrong’ and can be helped to break down faster by adding different materials
- ideas for dealing with more challenging waste materials
- making some potting mixes
- each participant will take home a bag of potting compost
Whether you are a beginner looking to start composting at home or someone seeking to improve your composting skills, this workshop will provide the knowledge and confidence to turn organic waste into a valuable resource.
What to bring:
a packed lunch, note book, pen, water bottle, and strong shopping bag to carry your potting mix home with you. Refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits) will be provided.
When
: 10am - 4pm Sunday 8 June 2025
Where:
Heart of BS13 Flowers, Hartcliffe city Farm, Lampton Avenue, Hartcliffe, Bristol BS13 0QH
Cost:
£60 standard ticket
£80 pay it forwards ticket (this ticket helps others to attend)
£40 concession (these spaces are available to people who are in receipt of means-tested benefits only)
£10 concession (these spaces are available to BS13 residents who are in receipt of means-tested benefits only)

Please contact jenny.liggitt@heartofbs13.org.uk

Tues 7pm (UK) Zumba® Toning Room n Zoom at Manorbrook Primary Sch | Manorbrook Primary School
Jun 10, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Zumba Toning involves holding hand held light 'Maraccas' so you can shake them to the beat or use them as if they are weights. The songs I use are often slower or have easier to follow moves so you can really get into the song and into the fitness aspect quickly. They are just as much fun as Zumba but with a slightly more effective outcome.
The class is about 45-50 minutes of Merengue, Salsa, Reggaeton & Cumbia dances mixed in with other fantastic World music. I have a Room or Zoom option as I still have clients that join online from home so you can still do the class even if you can't leave the house!
Suitable for everyone, beginners and experts it doesn't matter if you have danced for years or never tried before, you'll be wiggling & giggling to the brilliant music and haveing a great time.

Breathwork, Yoga and Sound Bath | The Mount Without
Jun 10, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Join me for an immersion in transformational breathwork, kundalini Global yoga and sound bath in The Mount Without where we’ll be accessing altered states of being.
Breath is a powerful tool we can harness to regulate the nervous system, release stress and tension in the body, and enter a deep state of calm and presence. When we combine breath and posture it allows us to quiet our minds and open our hearts, expanding our energetic field, and accepting ourselves completely as we are. Some breaths will be energetic, some incredibly soft and gentle. Both will allow us to experience complete stillness.
Working with the science of these divine ancient practices can significantly reduce anxiety, depression, and addictive behaviours, creating a profound sense of balance within the self. There is an ever-expanding body of research that supports the benefits of yoga, breathwork and meditation in improving and maintaining overall mental and physical health.
One of the many beautiful aspects of working with yoga and the breath is that they gift us the ability to ‘self-regulate’: the state of presence we experience removes the need to reach outside ourselves for something to soothe us. The art of these classes is to discover that you can change how you feel. Our feelings are not in our head, but in our bodies. We have autonomy, and yoga and breath can change our physical and emotional state, our hormonal flow, and ultimately how we feel and experience ourselves.
What to expect:
Through a dynamic practice of breathwork , and Yoga we’ll activate the energic body, finding deep presence, expansion, and often blissful states.
Release stress and tension while finding stillness, whether through energising or soft, gentle breathwork.
Each session ends with a crystal bowl sound bath, leaving you in a deeper state of relaxation.
No experience is necessary, and I aim to create a safe, welcoming space for all. Please note, these classes are not suitable during pregnancy.

Integrated, Nature-based SuDS Masterclass - BRISTOL | Design West, Bristol
Jun 10, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Learn how to design better SuDS and better places, from award-winning pioneers and recognised leaders in the field of SuDS.
This in-person masterclass dives right into how to adopt design approaches that will enable you to unlock the potential of integrated SuDS design on any project, no matter how challenging. These approaches consistently lead to better landscapes and developments that deliver more benefits for people, wildlife and the wider environment, more layers of meaning and more design fulfilment, as well as being more functionally effective, robust, cost-effective and easy to maintain.
By demystifying the hydraulic modelling and introducing techniques that allow you to easily design with and understand ‘the volumes’ as building blocks in your designs, you will learn to design SuDS more creatively, flexibly and intuitively – like playing with water flow on the beach!
We’ll explore the many guises and applications of the range of SuDS techniques and give guidance on how to choose which are appropriate where.
Together we’ll do some practical workshop exercises to apply what we’re learning through the day, and explore the added value that reuniting rain positively with landscapes can bring.
AND, we’ll empower you to challenge some of the blockages and barriers that get put in front of you in your projects.
Our aim: to inspire, educate and empower.

"Talk to Me" - A Textile Creativity Workshop | The Ken Stradling Collection
Jun 12, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
Develop Your Creative Skills with Textiles!
This workshop is for anyone who wishes to develop their creative skills. You may already use patterns or kits but want to try something different and more personal. You might have a few ideas but are unsure how to take them forward. This approach applies to many different media, but we’ll be using textiles to create samples in response to your cherished object or picture. You’ll leave with a sample or two and an individual action plan to take your ideas forward.
Limited to 8 participants.
No previous experience is necessary, but a willingness to try out ideas and talk about them is welcome! Please bring along a cherished object that means something special to you – it could be an item of clothing, a holiday souvenir, something from a family member, a kitchen utensil, a vase, an image or picture, etc. Also, bring along a small notebook and pencil; all other materials will be provided.
About the Facilitator:
Liz Dymond is a textile artist who tells stories through collage, fine hand embroidery, and digital fabric design, exploring themes of treasure, legacy, and order. Her work includes original artworks and prints, often incorporating inherited fabrics, clothing, and haberdashery to highlight their hidden value.
With six years of experience as a textile artist and a lifelong passion for making, Liz previously worked as a medical engineer, specializing in health, innovation, and creative thinking workshops. In 2019/20, she completed a Foundation in Art & Design at Bristol School of Art to further develop her practice.
She regularly exhibits in local art trails and open competitions, with selections for Fringe Arts Bath (2022, 2023) and Friends of the Royal West of England Academy (2023). In 2023, she contributed to the historical embroidery project ‘The Unstitched Coif,’ with her blackwork piece exhibited at Bloc Gallery, Sheffield, and accepted into the Victoria & Albert Museum’s permanent collection.
Accessibility:
Please note that the workshop space is accessed via stairs. Seating will be provided for the session. For any access queries, please contact engagement@stradlingcollection.org.

SuDS, Ecology & Biodiversity Net Gain Masterclass - BRISTOL | Design West, Bristol
Jun 12, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Bristol
SuDS
, Ecology &
BNG
Masterclass
This masterclass explores how to design SuDS, or influence SuDS design, to optimise benefits to wildlife and how this fits with the new mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements that came into force in early 2024.
Drawing on decades of dedicated SuDS and ecological design, delivery, guidance and policy-making, we will share industry-leading knowledge and experience in an interactive and engaging masterclass with practical, applied learning activities.
Who is this masterclass for?
Landscape architects: learn how to design SuDS that genuinely creates meaningful habitat and contributes significantly to BNG scoring.
Ecologists: learn how to positively influence SuDS design to unlock its potential for wildlife and effectively evaluate SuDS designs within the BNG metric.
Engineers: learn how to anticipate the impacts of designing for wildlife on SuDS designs and collaborate with landscape architects and ecologists to unlock the fourth ‘pillar of SuDS’.
Planners and council officers: learn the principles of good SuDS design for biodiversity to empower you to enhance policy, guide project objectives and effectively evaluate applications.
Anyone else with an interest: All of the above!
SuDS
and wildlife
The ability of well-designed SuDS to generate valuable habitat for wildlife is one of its core strengths but is sadly often overlooked or poorly designed.
Now that BNG is a mandatory requirement, this multifunctional quality of SuDS is more tangibly valuable to developers, and sought by planners, than ever.
The delivery of wildlife benefits in SuDS depends directly on sound core principles of both SuDS and ecological design, combined with careful design detailing, supervised construction and considered maintenance.
It is not the type of SuDS feature that delivers habitat – a swale for example – but how it has been designed to be protected from pollution, exhibit the correct conditions, contain appropriate plant species, avoid conventional drainage features that kill wildlife, and connect to other habitat areas.
What’s
covered in the course?
Principles of designing SuDS for ecology
Masterplanning for SuDS and ecology
Designing, demonstrating and evaluating BNG habitat typologies in SuDS
Understanding the SuDS management train and how it impacts landscape conditions relating to habitats
Protecting from threats to wildlife
Maintenance for SuDS and ecology
Case study projects
Practical, collaborative design exercises and group discussion.
