Forest Songs - Meditative Singing Walk - guided by April Laurie | Bowen Park
Apr 27, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Nanaimo A
Are you curious about vocal improvisation? With April's creative, playful leadership, we will use the visual and auditory elements around us as starting points for short improvisational moments. All ages and abilities are welcome.
You might participate frequently, a little, or simply listen. We might consider things like " how does one sing the shape of a fern", or " what sound illustrates the bend in that branch", or "what would i sing in response to a waterfalls power, and movement?".
We'll start with some circle singing, and enjoy the sound of all our voices together.
What is the meditative part of this experience? While on the walk, we will be in silence except for the music/improv pieces. We'll establish a few signals to navigate our time together.
We'll close the event with a song taught and led by Sylvia Humble, local community songleader.
Suggested donation: $10-20 in cash in person, or online via an Eventbrite ticket.
PLEASE NOTE
: we'll meet at the LOWER picnic shelter; parking is on
Wall Street
adjacent to the shelter
Please wear comfortable shoes, and bring water to drink.

Tuesday Eve. Nanaimo SING AGAIN Community Choir Circle - All Voices Welcome | Rotary Field House
Apr 29, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Nanaimo A
Do you miss singing in community, just for the joy of it? Free your voice and sing in harmony by ear, in a joyful, inclusive community choir / song circle that I call “
SING AGAIN
”! It’s all about joy and connection, rather than performance or perfection. We are a diverse range of voices from beginners to experienced harmonizers - every voice belongs.
Join us in the acoustically divine Rotary House, and learn harmony-rich songs from the community singing movement, uplifting pop, sea shanties, call & echo, and world music. Some songs are taught by ear in 3 or 4 parts, and on some songs we’ll let the harmonies happen organically. Tuesday nights are extra special as we're accompanied by Stephen Pilcher of Percussive Elements Drumming, and you are invited to grab a shaker or other rhythm instrument for a song or two.
Enjoy a cup of ginger tea during our short break, and get to know others in the circle!
Check out our song list and more details at
www.sylviahumble.ca/sing-again-choir
I offer three weekly circles: two in Nanaimo (Monday afternoons and Tuesday evenings) and one in Parksville (Thursdays at 3:30). Membership is optional; drop-ins welcome, and your first time at Sing Again is free!

Are you looking to connect with women who are passionate about leadership in the Central Vancouver Island region?
Join the
Women’s Leadership Circle
— a non-judgmental space where you can show up exactly as you are, with whatever’s on your mind and in your heart. Instead of focusing on what you do,
let's talk about
how you're doing
.
Through conversations that dig beneath the surface, we’ll explore fresh perspectives on familiar challenges, share strategies to thrive at work and in life, and develop meaningful relationships that lift each other up.
What to expect:
6:00-6:15: Arrival & Settling In
6:15-6:30: Welcome & Intentions
6:30-7:15: Listening Circle (Theme for May 6: Navigating Change During Uncertainty)
7:15-8:00: Community Exchange
Whether you’re leading a team, a project, or the change you wish to see in the world, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or even frustrated at times — especially when you care deeply about your work.
You’re not alone. Connecting with other leaders can help you quiet doubts and reignite your spark.
During the
Listening Circle
, each participant will have the opportunity to share thoughts or feelings around the evening’s theme. Others will be invited to listen deeply, reflect back, or ask thoughtful questions — without jumping into “fix it” mode, unless support is requested.
In the
Community Exchange
, we’ll reflect on the insights from the circle, notice any shared themes, and offer ideas, resources, or support based on what emerged. This is a space for collective wisdom and mutual growth.
The Women’s Leadership Circle centers the experiences of women and gender-diverse people. While all genders are welcome, we aim to foster curiosity, understanding, and peer allyship.
The gathering will be facilitated by
Crystal Lee
, MPH, CPCC
— a holistic career coach, workshop leader, and the host of The After Work Hangout podcast. With over a decade of experience building community, from social impact potlucks to laughter yoga in the park, Crystal believes that magic happens in groups.
