Basic bike control lessons for young children. Get tips and hints from our instructors to bypass stabilisers and gain confidence quickly to carry on after the session. Children can bring their own bike or ride our balance bikes and/or bikes. Please remove stabilisers before attending the session.
Children do not need to be able to ride prior to the course.
• Participants are required to bring an energy packed snack and no fizzy drinks
• Required medication must accompany the participant
In the past parents have brought along their babies and toddlers, this has proved to be unsuitable as you will need to give your child your undivided 1:1 attention to get the most out of the session

Early May is the best time of year for cacophony of bird calls as they defend their territories and attract mates. The walk will be guided by bird expert Andy Neilson who will point out bird calls and find the best spots on the reserve to enjoy the chorus as it crescendos over the morning.

We’ll explore a variety of hides throughout the reserve, giving you the chance to witness not only otters but also a wide range of other wildlife species that call this stunning area home.
Bring your binoculars and a sense of adventure! Whether you're a wildlife enthusiast or just curious about these fascinating creatures, this is an experience not to be missed.

will deliver the 2025 Annual Botstiber Lecture on Austrian-American Affairs. Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Veit anchored the top-rated Austrian news program
Zeit im Bild
(1993-2012) and later served, from 2013 to 2020, as the Washington, D.C., Bureau Chief for Austrian Public Broadcasting (ORF). Ms. Veit is a graduate of both Notre Dame University and the University of Vienna. She currently works as a journalist, media consultant, and author. Ms. Veit will speak on “Fake News – Hard Facts – True Lies? How News Media Influence Public Opinion in Austria and the United States.”
The 2025 Botstiber Lecture will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 6:30 pm, at the Embassy of the Austrian Republic, 3524 International Court, NW, Washington, DC.

Join local artist Martin Gibbons as he takes you through a variety of techniques for sketching birds.
This detailed workshop is suitable for those just starting out with sketching as well as experienced artists who are stuck in a rut or those looking to improve their drawings. Martin will help you with getting the basic shapes and proportions correct before moving onto the details through a range of exercises and techniques.
Please bring your usual sketching materials with you, or materials can be supplied be on the day if you don't have anything.
This is a full day workshop with a short lunch break. Lunch is available to purchase from our cafe or you may bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day.

Explore the world of minibeasts with this family-focused activity session.
From worms to moths and beetles to bumblebees, we’ll be learning all about invertebrates and the role they play in the natural world. This event is primarily aimed at families with children between the ages of 5-12, but everyone is welcome to attend.
The event will be led by one of our Visitor Centre educators and will take place around the nature reserve. During this session we’ll be testing our observation and identification skills to explore where minibeasts live and what they do within their ecosystem.
