A Rainy Day Trip to the Forbidden City in Beijing for Families | A Childhood Moment Under the Gate of Taihe
Beijing—this city is not only a repository of history, but also a place where you can slowly enjoy life with your children. If you think rainy days are unsuitable for taking the kids out, then you've truly missed the unique atmosphere of the Forbidden City in the rain! This family trip included one of Beijing's most classic attractions: the Gate of Taihe. Children running around in raincoats under the solemn Chinese architecture created a heartwarming family scene. Here's a full recap of the highlights of this trip.
Must-Visit for Families at the Forbidden City: Highlights of the Gate of Taihe
The Gate of Taihe, the main gate of the Forbidden City and the first of the twelve gates, is majestic with its golden bricks and red walls, exuding a strong sense of history. But what impressed me most was the Gate of Taihe after the rain. The ground sparkled, and the entire Forbidden City seemed to have been washed clean, appearing exceptionally solemn and refreshing.
Children ran and laughed in front of the Gate of Taihe, wearing cute little raincoats. They could play to their hearts' content without worrying about catching a cold, allowing parents to let go of their usual concerns about their children's outings. The spacious plaza and magnificent architecture here provide ample space for exploration, making it a perfect place to let the kids burn off energy!

Tips for a Family Trip to Taihe Gate
1. Don't panic when visiting the Palace Museum on a rainy day: Many spaces in the Palace Museum are very spacious, so rain boots and raincoats are essential. They are safe and can also spark children's curiosity about traveling in different weather conditions.
2. It is recommended to go in the morning: There are relatively fewer people, children can run and jump freely, and you can also take photos of the ancient architecture with fewer people and a beautiful post-rain atmosphere! 3. Children tire easily, and the Forbidden City square is large, so remember to prepare some snacks and water for them.
4. The Gate of Supreme Harmony is a highlight of the Forbidden City; allow ample time to experience the blend of ancient and modern atmosphere within its ancient architecture.
Recommended Transportation: The Forbidden City can be reached from either the East Gate or the South Gate. We recommend taking Metro Line 2 to Qianmen Station or Tiananmen East Station and walking from there. Be careful of slippery surfaces on rainy days.
Recommended Dining for Families Visiting the Forbidden City: There are many simple restaurants near the Forbidden City (Jingshan Qianjie and Nanchizi Street). We recommend "Nanchizi Peking Duck" and "Jingshan Xiaoguan," which are suitable for both children and simple family meals.
