Hotel Helios Costa Tropical

Brilliant, friendly staff, and the hotel's pretty good too. Thought Alicia on the reception desk was exceptional, but then everyone else we came across were too, all seeming to have the objective of providing great customer service. We stayed twice in sea view rooms while touring around and would recommend those or the west facing side. In summary, it's a gem of an hotel with good facilities at a decent price.

Just returned from a wonderful stay at the Helios Hotel in Almunecar. From booking to leaving the staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is located right in front of the beach and our room had a lovely sea view. We had half board and there was always a great variety of good quality food available at each meal time. The hotel is clean and the outdoor heated pools make relaxation easy. The hotel's staff all were very helpful, professional and most of all friendly. It is great to see people who look like they are enjoying their jobs helping the guests to have a good time. We have stayed at two Helios hotels (Costa Tropical and Mallorca ) and they are both first class hotels.

Extra-friendly welcome on reception Superb super-clean room with sea view on 9th (top floor) In room, handwritten card by Tamara Rodriguez (Operations manager) welcoming us with macaroons, fresh fruit & a chilled bottle of cava … All staff: management, reception, bar, restaurant, housekeeping unfailingly smiling, friendly and helpful - and patient with our very imperfect Spanish (all speak English). Relaxed, homely laid-back feel throughout hotel (you want to take your drinks in here? It’s fine. You want to take books away? It’s fine. You want to sit here but you don’t want a drink? It’s fine …) Restaurant - already good 2 years ago has made significant improvements: More choice - heated plates provided (!) - cava with breakfast and all food well cooked, clearly identified and tastefully presented. Show cooking of eggs, omelets, pancakes, churros etc at breakfast and other dishes at dinner. A treat. Bar prices reasonable for a 4 star hotel - staff also super friendly. Parking easy and free in surrounding streets (there is a charge in summer months) A negative? Relating only to bathroom: There seems to be a trend in hotels to limit the use of shower gel to a minimum by providing dispensers that only reluctantly …dispense - and in very tiny quantities. Very frustrating. In this hotel I simply unscrewed the plunger and poured gel (a reasonable quantity!) onto my hand. Problem solved. A very minor detail. We have stayed in “good” Spanish hotels on the Costa Brava, Benidorm, Mojacar, Malaga, Estepona, Granada and Madrid but the Hotel Helios Costa Tropical in Almuñecar remains the very best in our personal experience. It is - and by far - our favourite hotel in Spain. This hotel is unique. It may sound like publicity but it’s an honest opinion and truly felt. Sincere and heartfelt congratulations to all staff for their exceptional quality of service and to management for their vision and clear priority for the highest standard of customer care at all levels. Looking forward to our next visit!

Third time staying at this lovely Hotel. It’s very clean, staff are happy, friendly and efficient. The food is excellent. Such a lot of choice at breakfast and dinner. We were half board and stayed in a Grand Panoramic room that had an extremely large balcony with superb views. We’ll definitely be returning.

We enjoyed our 5 day stay so much at Hotel Helios. It was very comfortable and the staff were fabulous especially Tamara Rodriguez the operations Manager who went out of her way to make our stay memorable. We had a couple of issues which were resolved very quickly. We also enjoyed the spa where Andrea took care of myself and my husband with fabulous massages. The views are amazing and the hotel has been renovated to a very high standard. The breakfast and dinner buffets were very pleasant with lots of options Thanks for a wonderful relaxing stay which was really needed. We will be back

The hotel is perfectly located for a stunning sea view. It's situated near shops and restaurants so you have everything you need nearby. The local restaurants are good but to really experience Almunecar, I would highly recommend walking the extra distance to the old town area for a more authentic dining experience. The staff in the hotel are exceptional. From the restaurant and bar staff, to the girls on reception, Alba and particularly Alicia who is amazing. She was so welcoming and went above and beyond with local knowledge. We only had breakfast in the hotel but safe to say there wasn't anything more we could have asked for. Highly recommend the freshly made french omelettes. The room unfortunately had a musty smell that seemed to come from the drains. When we mentioned it at reception they sent someone straight up to take a look. They were unable to remedy the issue. We mentioned it again after the second night as it was unbearable. They moved us to a new room which was not quite as nice but we didn't mind as the smell was gone. The heated pool was a great addition, especially in April. We didn't spend the evenings in the hotel, opting to walk around the town most nights. The evening entertainment is aimed more at older guests so not really our cup of tea. Over all it was a great experience, mainly down to the staff and the location.

I absolutely love this hotel. The staff are amazing, friendly & welcoming. The service is excellent. The rooms are clean & fresh with white linen & stunning sea views. The entertainment at night is often excellent from Marta the flamenco dancer to various singers & musicians. The bar snacks by the pool are great value. The pool is heated until end of April & makes it a pleasure to swim in. The location is right on the beachfront & San Cristobal beach area near lots of restaurants & bars. The secret weapon who makes your stay excellent & welcomes you with her huge warm smile is Alicia on reception. Nothing is too much trouble for her & it’s always service with a smile. Alicia goes the extra mile to make your stay the best. Alicia has been here since the hotel opened & I think it’s now her 35th year at Helios. What a star she is! We love returning to this hotel as we are made to feel so welcome & part of the Helios community. Thank you again for a fabulous 2 weeks. Cannot wait to return in July.

Great Hotel Helios Costa Tropical with lovely staff. Patxi always greeted us at meals with a big smile, you were immediately in a better mood. Food very good . The hotel is cyclist-friendly with bike room and very clean. Our stay lasted 10 days, I recommend!

Once again, the Helios Costa Tropical was an excellent place for a spring break. The hotel is brilliant in every regard. We had a junior suite which was superb; roomy and had a super view in two directions – you felt like you were on a ship overlooking the sea. The hotel represents exceptional value. Put out of your mind mass tourism hotels in Spain and think more of a personal family run style hotel which has superb standards of cleanliness, as well as top-notch food, including a fabulous breakfast. The staff are brilliant. The operations manager, Tamara, is so welcoming and helpful. You feel like her only guest and she has a brilliant team around her who cannot do enough to help you. We are extremely fussy travellers and this hotel exceeds all our expectations.
