My girlfriend and I stayed at Savanna House before and after our safari, and had a very comfortable relaxing stay both times. The staff are super friendly and welcoming (there’s also a very friendly cat which was really nice!). The breakfast in the morning was amazing with so much delicious food - the price seemed worth it for the breakfast alone! Although not quite in the centre of Arusha there are lots of bars/places to eat all within walking distance; and taxis into town are pretty inexpensive! Rooms were nicely decorated and had very comfortable beds as well as nice hot showers and a good wifi connection! 10/10 would recommend!

Anthony (the owner) came with a driver to pick us up at tha airport which was really nice and we got a personal connection with him from the start. Wonderful person. Wonderful staff overall! Bena and Rosie was so nice and was playing with our child all the time in the garden. Savannah House is like a hidden oasis in the suburb of Arusha. Like mentioned it has a really cozy and nicely decorated garden with many places to chill and also a delightful dining area. Our room was very aesthetic with animal paintings on the wall, really cool wooden beds and a fan in the ceiling for warm days. If I have to improve anything in this fantastic place it is only the breakfast. It was a bit too much for us to eat so we almost only ate the fruit, veggies pancakes and toasts. Everything else was excessive. For us anyway! Other than that, no remarks whatsoever!

I had an amazing experience staying at Savannah house. Anthony and all the family members and friends were very helpful and make you you felt at home. I travel a lot and never experienced an hospitality like this. Would recommend to everyone! I also had an amazing safari with his cousin Anasante and a very cool tour of the city with Goodluck! Such warm people! Looking forward to go back to climb Kilimandjaro :)

A homely and quaint place to stay if travelling alone or a couple. As i was leaving early morning, Anthony took the time to make me breakfast himself. I also absolutely loved the art in the room and the outdoors with everything as nature oriented as possible.

My wife and I stayed at Savannah House before and after our safari and had an exceptional time at Savannah House. When you step inside the gate, you are welcomed by a sweet family staff who let you share their beautiful oasis. The outdoor/patio area is nice to relax outside your room and enjoy complimentary tea/coffee at any time. There is a sweet outdoor kitty who we enjoyed petting too. The room itself (we had a double room) was very comfortable and clean, the bed comfortable (firm to our liking), good sized bathroom with a wet shower like all showers in Tanzania and a fan if you need a breeze (although the temperature was perfect, nice and cool). There was even a universal power ***** so you can easily charge your things including anything from USB. Best of all though was the complimentary breakfast. Cooked fresh and served on a beautiful table set with nice touches like beaded coasters and place mats, we enjoyed an array of fruit, avocado, bread, Tanzanian pancakes/crepes, avocado cucumber salad, eggs if you like (we're vegan so opted out), fresh juice, etc. What a wonderful breakfast to start the day! The staff also helped to call in a pizza for delivery one night for our dinner. They even arranged a taxi service (for an extra charge) to the JRO airport (an hour away) the day we checked out from the hotel and the driver was punctual for our super early morning departure. Above and beyond our expectations! We did not venture outside the Savannah House gate to explore the neighborhood, but this is not really in downtown Arusha. I'm certain there are food options within walking distance, but we ordered pizza and had it delivered so we did not have to leave the property.

Savannah House is a perfect example of the type of establishments that get extremely high reviews because of the wonderful staff, even though it is a budget hostel. The great reviews don't mean it would compare with a 5-star hotel, but rather a testimony of the place being exceptionally good in its category. It is a small hostel hosted by Anthony, who is super-caring. He or his sister showed me the way to the restaurants and supermarket and every morning woke up to see that my safari pick-up worked well. As people coming here are probably going for a safari and/or seeing Kilimanjaro, ask Anthony for a quote by sending WhatsApp to the hotel phone number. He seemed to have competitive prices. But yes, it is a basic budget hostel. The room was small. My room type was double/twin. There were twin beds pushed together and there would have been no more than about 20 cm of space for pulling them apart. The beds didn't have mosquito nets, the windows did. There was no aircon, but sleeping with the window open kept the room temperature comfortable enough for sleeping. However I woke up both nights after 3 AM when the sound of a rooster started coming from the open window, at which point I closed it and continued sleeping. The sounds from other rooms could be heard clearly, but fortunately the other guests were quiet. I once spotted a small lizard on the bathroom wall and once some kind of a bug on the room wall. Otherwise everything was clean. The house was quite new. Anthony lived in it himself. There was no separate reception, but Anthony seemed to be around most of the time. The front gate was being kept locked and someone from inside was needed to come open it. The lodge was not marked outside, so I guess it's best to agree beforehand with Anthony how you are going to find it (which in my case meant a transfer organized by him). WiFi worked well when I seemed to be the only guest around, but the WiFi got slow in the evening as people went in their rooms. Savannah House is located in the outskirts of Arusha. It's along a narrow dirt road just off Nelson Mandela Road, being far enough from the road so that there's no traffic noise. The location wasn't a big deal for me as I came for visiting other places than Arusha, just using Arusha as my base. There was a small supermarket closeby. I tried two different restaurants in the area. The first one had international standards (including pricing), the other was a local one. The local restaurant had no menu in English, but as Anthony walked me there, he helped me to pick a dish. I always had such an early departure for my trips that I didn't get to try the breakfast. Overall, I had a good stay and got extremely high value for my money. Just don't come with the expectations of getting a fancy hotel.
