Avalon Ubud Castle & Spa

We booked for our honeymoon and where so disappointed with staying here, me and my husband are not ones to complain, we have been in Bali for 3 weeks and loved every place until we got to Avalon castle, our room didn’t make sense at all, there where no sockets on the wall, making it very hard to charge out electronics, the curtains provided no privacy at all and let all the light in, there was a carved open window to the outside with no way of shutting it, allowing bugs and hot air into the room, many tiles in the bathroom are all falling off, we asked if we could change room and he said we could but we’d have to pay an extra £10 a night, we then asked to receive a refund so we could just leave and he said no, he also talked to my husband in a very patronising way… thankfully he called out he’s wife and she seems to know what she’s doing and she offered us a different room free of charge. Unfortunately that room was just as bad, aircon hardly cooled the room and there wasn’t any hot water for the first couple hours. The “castle” ( which isn’t even a castle) is still in construction and wasn’t very nice staying by the pool. The whole vibe of that place was very off and we felt so much better and calmer after we left

A couple run this hotel so It's a cosy place, clean beds and wonderful staff around with good food! Good for pictures but I feel little inconvenience walking to and from the room as the property is on a slop next to river. So there is lots of climbing and going downhill. Algea and tad poles were there in open spa area so I didn't try it out. Value for money I would give 8/10 as other places around were expensive in December.

This is a great hotel. We had the little house next to the river overlooking a 3 level pool. Our room had an outdoor bathroom and a cute balcony. The sound of the river was calming and serene. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Don’t look further and book your stay at this amazing place.

Liked · The room, itself, was nice enough. Very large. Beautiful lobby/library and woodwork. We did not eat there, but what we saw looked tasty. They could deliver breakfast down the hill by a pool, if you liked. It is more than a bit isolated. Disliked · It was absolutely in the middle of nowhere. It was a very long walk up the steep hill, up the driveway and down a small road to the "main" road. Once at the main road, there was nothing. Nowhere to eat or buy staples. Everything was a taxi drive. Everything. The closest stores to buy soda, snacks, beer, etc. was about a 20-minute taxi ride down a teeth-chattering road. On the first night we stayed there, there were kids running and stomping all over the wooden floor on the main (reception) room. Mind you, the floors are just wood and directly above the guest rooms. So, by 2200hrs I'd had enough and went up and complained to the (very) young man at the desk. By the time I'd gone downstairs to my room, they had stopped the noise. The next morning when I went up for breakfast, the same young man (15?) approached me to apologize for the racket. He tried to justify the kids' racket by saying there was not much he could do as the kids were guests also and he was just trying to appease the guests. Probably the most annoying thing was this young desk clerk kept asking me to give them 5-stars on trip advisor. He asked me EVERY time he saw me. As we were checking out, he followed me through the lobby CONTINUALLY pestering me to give them 5-stars. He must have said it at least 10 times on our way out. I swear this is the truth. The pictures of people swimming and bathing in the small pools by the river must be a couple of years old. The tiny pools they picture are way too nasty for swimming. Full of water bottles and old paper. The bottom floor is advertised as a private pool it is not and if you're on the bottom floor, other guests can easily swim right up to your room. Creepy... As you can tell, I was really, really disappointed.

I ve been here for my honeymoon and this was the best experience i ve had in my life. Everything was incredible i felt like a princess. The food is so good i m a vegetarian so i found dishes for me also and the place is full of art. A castle in every way like you see only in movies. It s a place you need to try. If you re into pictures and great spots to take pictures this is the place! The owners are amazing and kind.

Absolutely magical, we adored the exotic envirment, the huge villa and eating by the river. The magic library is a forest of thought as was our amazing staircase... Thank you so much Ibu B and friends! xxx

It’s an amazing location, relaxing location, multiple pools and places to relax , serene gardens and helpful staff. It’s a hidden haven from which to recharge and reinvigorate I’ll certainly return , highly recommend

The facility is amazing, beautiful, full of wonderful places. The hosts very friendly and kind. Food very tasty, great places to eat meals. The atmosphere of the castle is unique, it makes a great impression Best regards from Poland ❤❤❤❤❤❤
