We loved our stay at Villa Victor Louis. For us, it was a perfect weekend away in a beautiful city, great food, great wine and the room that we chose at that hotel was elegant, peaceful and we both got a great night sleep. I think we will definitely return. Although my waistline may not thank me if I do! The staff were really warm and accommodating and we spent the first 10-15 minutes chatting about where good things were situated in the city. Our host gave us a few pointers as to a good wine to drink without breaking the bank and another member of staff went above and beyond found a restaurant that served confit duck for me after I said in passing that I hadn’t been able to. It ended up being our final meal and a lovely one way to end it. Also a couple of things that I’d like to have known if I were reading a review are the following: It’s centrally located and is only a short walk from most places. Even if you do need to go slightly further afield then public transport in Bordeaux is good and you can get tickets on your smartphone if you want to utilise it (we didn’t often and only then due to the rain). It’s in a lovely area with old world charm and next to a beautiful church and square.

This is the worst hotel we ever stayed in. We were told we had an apartment - what we actually had was two separate rooms in the basement. The basement is badly converted and smelled. The rooms are beside the laundry where the bedclothes etc are washed. The decor is very dated and shabby looking. Rooms are dirty. The bedspread and cushions were filthy. There were ants on our bed. The shower was full of dead flies. One night we came back the electricity was off and we couldn’t get it back on. There is minimal staff at the hotel so no one to help. No staff around after 9pm. It is not a hotel - it is a glorified poor AIRBNB. The electricity went off and on several times on the day we left and the receptionist blamed that on their being water beside our kettle (the kettle was very cheap and spilled water when it boiled). That apparently turned off the electricity in the entire hotel. We were told me had access to a terrace - the chairs out there were all filthy, the outdoor sofa was like something you’d see abandoned - covered in cigarette butts. There is no one to help with lifting heavy cases and no lift. We paid almost 1,300 euros for 5 nights. I have never been so let down. We left after 2 nights as we dreaded the thoughts of going back to the dirty room every night with our baby. We received no apology or discussion when we explained the reason for our early departure. We had to pay 700 euros for the following three nights at a new hotel.

Reserved 3 nights in the Studio for our honeymoon in Bordeaux. The boutique hotel is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city in a quiet neighborhood and it’s decorated transporting you back to the 18th century with ornate decor and charming views. The manager was amazing, attentive, and gave great recommendations and directions for first time visitors. She’s worth the stars. The hotel is at least .5 miles from the city center and cafes - everything shuts down around 8-9 pm. The Studio room is located in the basement and has a door that leads out to the picturesque garden. Unfortunately it smelled like mildew and mold, and we had the worst night sleep ever that first night. The bed was comfy, but neither the blankets or the small extra blanket kept us warm enough. There were traces of black mold in the air conditioner unit as well. We asked to switch rooms in the morning and the wonderful manager was able to switch us to a Premier room located at the very top floor. If you have weak knees, asthma, or not good with stairs, I would suggest avoiding that room to book. The Blue Premier room was so charming and the views from the bedroom window sold itself. The bed was comfy and the bathtub was amazing. We opened the bathroom window to circulate air, but that welcomed in what seemed to be an entire baby spider population and the bathroom was infested with them. Needless to say, it was another sleepless night. Breakfast is about 12€ and consists of coffee/tea, some small pastries, few pieces of cheese and charcuterie, yogurt, hard/soft boiled eggs upon request, and juice assortment. It wasn’t filling and really should just be included in the price for what it was worth. We ended up leaving after the 2nd night and grabbing a hotel in the city center after we both were feeling ill. The house and gardens are beautiful, but the mold and mildew left us feeling sick and the smell remained on our clothes packed away. It was hard to breathe after a while there and we we felt much better each time we left the premises. It’s really a very charming B&B with picturesque views, but drastically needs some TLC on the rooms. The photos showcase a very clean, 18th century boutique, but it’s a bit dated and needs to be cleaned a bit if they’re going to compare prices with more modern hotels in the area. I recommend setting expectations early if you plan to book here. This isn’t a fancy, modern B&B, but does make you feel like one of the locals based on location and has charming, photo worthy views throughout. It won’t have all the amenities that comparable prices offer, and there will be scuff marks, chips on all dinnerware, and cobwebs. This place also gave off very much haunted vibes as both of us woke up the first night and mentioned we felt like there was someone watching us in the room that first night. We likely won’t book there again, but the manager was so wonderful.

We had a fabulous stay at the charming Villa Victor Louis in Bordeaux. The location was excellent, the rooms well decorated and comfortable. The young girls who were in charge were extremely welcoming and professional. There was also a little garden to enjoy and a lovely glass breakfast room. Nothing was too much for the staff. The decor is beautiful and I would highly recommend staying at Villa Victor Louis.

Unique property with lots of character. It felt like a true French experience. Our room was on the lower level of the building which meant we had access to a small private patio and to the larger, public courtyard. We spoke with another guest who was staying in a private villa off the courtyard so there are a variety of rooms available. The convenience of the buffet breakfast made for an easy start to our day. We had a car and while parking is available it is about a 10 minute walk in a very narrow underground facility. The location of Villa Victor Louis made for easy access to restaurants, TBM stops, and shopping. The staff were very professional and personable.

If you are thinking of booking Villa Victor Louis in Bordeaux think again as we are sure that there are much better places to stay for the money being charged here. The room on the upper floor (no lift) was very small and despite the air conditioner woking on full failed to keep the room cool. Breakfast was a sad affair, for instance my husbands morning coffee was served in a chipped soup bowl! The fruit that was on offer was some very sad old grapes that looked like they were past their prime. The only really nice place in the building was occupied by the managements office, as such didn’t feel inviting, welcoming nor relaxing for the visitors. Sometimes a visitor doesn’t want to sit in a cramped room. The position of this B and B is not within close proximity to all the attractions a tourist wants to see, nor the restaurants. In summary stay somewhere else. Very disappointing experience indeed.

Helen and Eloise were fantastic hosts and answered all our questions and gave valuable insights and tips to make our stay so good. They even decorated our bed for our wedding anniversary and arranged a wonderful wine tour at late notice. We definitely recommend Villa Victor Louis.

It may be an old residential building remodeled to good appearance. Bed sheet not replaced. Difficult to use light switch. Shower head refusing to stay in working position. Breakfast is poorly served in quantity and quality. No onsite or nearby parking. 7 minutes to public parking.

Customer service all time terrible. Made reservations over the phone and requested confirmation email numerous times (called 4 times requesting). Ignored calls and hung up on me. Service extremely terribly.
